Family has surprised me for Father’s Day with a day trip to Memphis to go to this huge model shop. Of course we’ll need lunch and it’s gonna have to be BBQ. So, what’s the best BBQ joint there?

And before anyone says anything, I posted this question on the Food Board first but apparently nobody posts there on Saturday mornings.

My buddies swear by Rendezvous.

Central city was really good.

Central barbecue is the best.

Rendezvous is a tourist trap.

I’ve been reading reviews going down the road (my son is driving) and almost all are positive. I’m leaning this way right now. What’s that part of town like now? Last time I was in Memphis was over 20 years ago.

dancing pigs bbq sauce on the pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw at The Shop. I think now it's called The Bar-b-que Shop, but anyway...just look up Dancing Pigs BBQ and that's the best place in Memphis.

You are going to get flooded with the standard popular places in Memphis for answers here, but trust me on this one.

Is Rendezvous the one with the burnt ceiling?

It sucks.

Rendezvous for dry ribs. Their wet ribs are awful. Other than that if you want pulled pork then one place is as good as another.

If you decide on fried chicken instead of Q then go to Uncle Lou's. It is much better than Gus's. There is really nothing special about Gus's.

They have multiple central locations

I honestly thought it was just “ok”. Didn’t blow my mind

I love Uncle Lou’s, but I prefer Gus’s. Best fried chicken I’ve ever had, and I’m a fried chicken connoisseur.

Rendezvous is overrated. Basic simple menu and it’s not worth the wait

Yeah I noticed that. There’s like 3 Centrals in Memphis. From what I’ve read the original on Central Street is the best. Only thing I worry about is what is that part of town like now? It’s been 20+ years since I was in Memphis and even then I was just passing through.

There are good ones all over. What part of town is the hobby shop in?

I like the Bar-B-Q Shop, which is also the one with the dancing pigs sauce. It is in Midtown so it is close to alot, neat older building.

BBQ Shop site

oops, saw someone mentioned the site and the sauce both together already, thought I saw them seperately so I wanted to make sure they both went together

Gus's is up there with the best fried chicken I've ever had, too. I've never had it in Memphis though. Only in Oxford.
