Gotta be in BR friday and figure I may try to find something good to eat. Want to try something new (usual is Ichibans, Chimes, Roux 61, Willies, BRQ, Bistro Byronz). I'll be in casual clothing with a 6 year old. So I'm not looking for fine dining - just good food. No particular cuisine. I'd also prefer not to go somewhere that they are mask nazis.
Perkins Rowe to Parkview Baptist area - don't mind travelling a few miles outside of that but don't want to head back downtown or go out to Ascension if that makes sense.

Mike Anderson’s on Lee Drive. Not too far out your way.

Go slightly north above BR Country Club and hit Eliza Restaurant. Had their duck this weekend and was one of the better dinnners I've ever had in BR. It's a casual atmosphere.

J Alexander is good. Eliza is great but a little out of the way

FYI
Bistro Byronz closed the old location and is being relocated to the old White Star Market and it hasn't reopened as of yet

George's on Highland (at Staring Lane) is generally in the area the OP is looking for. I like the food and imo would be a good place to bring a 6 year old.

Elsie's Plate & Pie on Government is top notch for both dinner and dessert.
If you want to experiment with ramen, Boru on Government is incredible as well.

if the weather is good BRQ now has a pretty solid patio set up, would be fine for a 6 year old unlike some of the other suggestions in here that chose to ignore that and the area requested

I appreciate their effort.
Also love the downvotes that a restaurant recommendation can bring. Never changed food board.
