I’ve been making Texas bbq style pinto beans from scratch simply to try different bean twists. Recipes are easy to find.

That’s pretty much what I do except I add diced pickled jalapeños and a squirt of mustard and whatever BBQ sauce I’m liking at the moment.

Brisket works better than bacon. And Corkscrew has the best baked beans I've eaten.

i keep ham bones from thanksgiving/christmas for baked beans

otherswise pretty much follow serious eats recipe, i tone down the sweetness a bit. The beans also take longer than i expect

I've used this one from Pioneer Woman multiple times and received compliments. I wish BBQ joints would put more effort into their beans. Most are disappointing.

Sorry bro, I haven't nailed down a recipe yet and don't have one to share.

The basics are pinto beans, onions, chili powder, some type of pepper, some type of meat. But I went ahead and googled one for you:

1 pound dried pinto beans
2 quarts water
1 (14-ounce) can whole tomatoes
2 cups chopped cooked brisket, preferably burnt ends
1 large onion, coarsely chopped
1 cup barbecue sauce
3 medium jalapeño peppers, seeded and coarsely chopped
6 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon kosher salt

Simmer for 2 hours or until done.

1/2 tube of hot breakfast sausage, heavily browned.
Add your favorite can of beans.

That looks pretty good but I'd probably go with maybe some fire-roasted stewed tomatoes and sorry, but my burnt ends ain't going in a pot of beans...lol. Some chopped would do the trick though.

lil smokies and a squirt of mustard and jack millers bbq sauce. Makes a meal out of a side!
