Bad Chicken From Rouses?

I recently bought and smoked two chickens from Rouses. When I took them out packaging, the skin was a little yellow, but the Best Buy date was still a week away. I smoked to temp and meat probed every joint and possible spot and everything was above 165. However the next day my wife and I both got extremely upset stomachs. Is there such thing as a bad chicken? It tasted normal so I didn’t think anything of it

No one here is going to be able to tell you if your meat was hypothetically bad based on it looking a little yellow, but I don’t personally trust best-by dates. Your senses are a lot more accurate than some $12/hr employee who doesn’t give a shite mindlessly marking dates on meats.

I’ve seen some absolutely disgusting, rancid pre-packed meat that’s still “good” according to the packaging date. Either go to the butcher and get it fresh or take a really good look at it when you get home and give it a good smell

For chicken, smell test is the best. I worked for a local fried chicken chain in the 70s. I processed thousands of bags of chicken over that two years. At least once a week, one bag would be bad, and you could smell it when you opened it.

Was probably frozen after the sell by date, thawed and relabeled with new date.
I think all chicken from rouses has been frozen and put out to defrost in the showcase.
I rather Sanderson Farms from Walmart.

That's pretty much a good rule of thumb for all foods except maybe cheese. Got some funky assed smelling cheeses, that are supposed to be funky smelling.

I wouldn`t eat any boiled crawfish from there. I`ve heard enough bad stuff about how long they keep sacks in the cooler to boiling dead ones.
