Austin/Round Rock

Looking for a few quick/not waiting in line for BBQ, food options in the Austin area..Staying in Round Rock for a few days but will be in and out of Austin for the weekend..
three kids, fairly picky but fit that scene very well

Louie Mueller bbq in Taylor. It is a 25 minute drive from round rock.

First obvious answer is the Salt Lick in Round Rock, but it is not the same as the Driftwood location IMO.
Interstellar over in Cedar Park made #2 on the best bbq list a couple years ago. Not really deserving of that spot IMO but it is great Q. Expect a little waiting though.
Muellers in Taylor is a good option.
If you really want to get out, drive up to Millers in Belton. World class and half the price of anything in ATX metro.

LeRoy and Lewis is on your route and is world class but it's Austin proper. I did eat at Opies in Spicewood once coming back from camping and thought it was great. Definitely closer to your destination and out of the crowds.

LeRoy & Lewis is pretty much along the way. It's not classic central TX but it's really good. It's in a food truck park with a couple other good options...tacos & wings.
Similar but not on the way for that trip is the Arbor food truck park on 12th St in East Austin. Great bbq (Rolling Smoke), killer tacos (Cuantos), burgers and probably more. Lots of choices for the family from 5 or 6 trucks. Weather is great now, too.
Valentina's is really good if you're in way south Austin.

we were there in the summer and it was like 105 outside. I did not even think about going to Franklin due to the lines but the day we were leaving someone told me no one was out there due to the heat.

Chuy's for tex-mex isn't a bad option. Nothing high end though as it's a local chain. I like Jack Allen's too, but never been to round rock location

Well, I like Chuy's for basic texmex but wouldn't send someone there from out of town. I would at least send them to Hula Hut so you can sit on the deck overlooking the Dam and water.

True. Was just mentioning stuff actually in Round Rock to give more options.
