Going to the ATL this weekend any places worth checking out?

Tons. It depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for something different, there's a very good Ethiopian restaurant in Druid Hills or you can randomly pick one of the dozens of Korean joints on Buford Hwy.

www.serpasrestaurant.com
Serpas
In mid town Atlanta. Owned by a chef from Louisiana who is the cousin of a friend of mine. I know I thought the same thing - probably not going to be very good. Big surprise, it was. One of GQ magazines top 10 new resturants in America.

I know a place that serves great viking food.
ETA: but seriously, if you're into burgers and beer, check out The Vortex. There's two locations.

I second the Vortex.
Also the Woodfire Grill suggestion is a good one.
I enjoy Flip Burger as well.
Blue Pointe is one of my favorites. Asian Fusion whatever the heck that even is.

Give us more idea of what you are looking for.

It's been a few years since I've been back but one stop I would have to make while in town is Fat Matt's Rib Shack. Best Ribs I've eaten by a ridiculously wide margin.
Another one to check out is Gladys Knight and Ron Winan's Chicken and Waffles. I'm not big on the chicken and waffle combo but they have very good fried chicken and lots of other good southern comfort/soul food dishes.

That place must be good, Clooney recommends it to Vera Farmiga in Up in the Air.

Fat matts is pretty good
Best BBQ is in Marietta at sam and daves (although I think they changed the name to like, bbq1 or some shit)
I'd recommend; MF (magic fingers) for the best/freshest sushi in ATL , Rathbuns for a steak, Kyma (upscale seafood and best of the list IMO) or any of the Buckhead Life Groups places . Or if you're in the mood for some traditional, awesome atlanta food, you gotta try the Varsity or Mary Mac's Tea Room.
Have a good time in my home town

I don't know about this. I have not been that impressed with these.
If I am going for a "group" (i.e. chain) feel, I prefer the Here to Serve restaurants.
Strip, Aja, Prime, Shout, Goldfish, Twist.
I especially like Twist. Good tapas menu.

I don't know about awesome. It's disgusting, but I love it!
