Are peanuts already in season?

Saw one of the produce markets (can't remember which one) in BR had a sign saying they had green peanuts.
Are they already in season, and if so, are they decent size this time of year?

I prefer boiling peanuts to boiling crawfish by a gigantic margin. As for your question, I don’t know, but I haven’t seen them anywhere yet.

Berry town in Ponchatoula has some very small ones last weekend. Of course I had to buy some. LOL

Typically a late summer/early fall crop. July is a little early, but maybe some place have them green now. Haven't seen any in Alabama yet.

I too love to boil them in seafood seasoning and when not in season I just buy a bag or two of raw peanuts from Rouses and boil them at home.

I’ve lived in Louisiana going on 28 years and have never had boiled peanuts. Not a big thing here in the swla area I guess. Every year y’all start talking about them this time of year. Where do I find the best ones?

They come in season in early fall, and are typically done with the first freeze. I wait until the first cool snap and buy a couple of bags from a farm close by and boil in the big pot and freeze in gallon zip locks. Do a big boil at halloween and hand them out in Styrofoam cups to the parents who are trick or treating with their kids.

I never even knew it was a thing until I started traveling the south on my motorcycle going to rural areas for the most part as I traveled.
They are not bad, but I do prefer mine dry roasted much more than boiled, but it is a decent alternative when done right.

They have them at Southside produce on Perkins. At least they told me a week ago that they would have them the next day.

Do you ever get to Mississippi? You can find them at those little roadside stands all over the place, like Highway 49. Be sure and get a Smith County watermelon at the same time!

These guys would have loved hanging with my just recently departed Uncle Junior. He helped develop several of the commercial peanut strains currently in use. He died earlier this month. He always had boiled peanuts on hand when in season.
He was a character too. 1st cousin to Jimmy Swaggart, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Mickey Gilley. Turned down pro baseball as a pitcher so he could work outdoors, 1st with La. Dept of Wildlife and fisheries and then with Ga. He convinced a Calculus professor at LaTech that since he and my Dad were related by marriage and in the same class together, that in order to keep his baseball scholarship the professor could just average their 2 grades, Dad was PO'd as it was the only time he made less than an A in a math course as a result.
