i'll read it in the am but funny enough when i read a few months ago how close that was to fruition, i called my mentor sometimes partner and told him that he needs to diversify

Sometimes, whenever I eat M&Ms, I like to hold two m&m's in between my fingers and squeeze as hard as I can until one m&m cracks. I eat the cracked one, and the one that didn't crack becomes the champion. Then I grab the other m&m, and force it to compete with the champion in this deadly game of m&m gladiators. I do this until I run out of m&m's, and when there is only one m&m left standing, I send a letter to m&m's brand with the champion m&m in it with a note attached that reads: "Please use this m&m for breeding purposes."

Is all human interaction a positive for you? Because I have to say, it would be really great for me to cut a lot of it out of my life. If the wait staff is part of the experience of a place, that's one thing. But fricking Applebee's? Just get my food to me ASAP and let me go about my day.
Those good waiters that become a part of the appeal of a place started waiting tables at a place like Applebee's.

I bet we could make an entire McDonald's restaurant drive though completely automated if we tried.

How, exactly, does that paraphrasing of a decade-old craigslist post pertain to order tablets?

Then those places will have to find a new farm system, I guess.
Anyway, I think your fears of reduced human interaction are unfounded, in this case. Yeah, some technology reduces interaction by giving us more ways to frick around alone (smartphones, video games, etc.), but the majority of technology was created so that we can do the things we have to do in less time, leaving more time for the things we want to do. And for many people, what they want to do is interact with other people. Think about it... I guarantee people interact more today than they did 100 years ago. Telephones let us talk to whoever we want, whenever we want. Cars get us places quickly so that we can interact in person. We can even interact "face to face" over the internet whenever we want with people thousands of miles away.
People like to interact with one another.. I don't think any technology will ever change that.

You can only order your dessert and second round of drinks through the tablet at Chilis....not your entire order. Don't eat at 'bees so I don't know about how theirs works.
One big positive to me about smart phones is kids behavior in restaurants has improved about 100%...

That's awesome. Did they say if they were going to do anything about their terrible food?

I'm not one of those people who thinks eating at a chain restaurant is beneath me. But something about Applebee's just disgusts me. It's dirty in just about every one I've walked into, and the service is terrible. The service is on level with a Popeye's, especially the one on Sherwood Forest Blvd.

I wonder how many germs are on that shite.

Yep. Last one I went to was just for a quick stop at the bar after work for a snack and beer. My arm got stuck on something sticky on the bar in two spots. The menu had smeared food and some other stick stuff on it. There was trash on the floor all over.
And they microwaved cheese wiz for my nachos. My beer was stale.
Fck that place. And yes, that screen is going to be nasty.

Restaurants are really the only place where you willingly give a stranger your credit card and let them walk away with it.
I like in western (BC & AB) Canada they bring a wireless credit card machine to the table. CC never leaves your possession

chilies and Applebee's are trashy

The couple without the tablet played on their phones, but the couple with the tablet interacted with each other, were much happier, and then went on to lead much better and more successful lives.
That was actually showing the difference between poor people and an O-T'er.

So when the service industry and retail jobs are dominated by computers what jobs will the college students and people without a college degree do?
What about when the cotton gin comes into wide use? What are we going to do with all that excess labor?

There's a difference here.
The cotton gin enabled us to produce more cotton in a harvest season.
This is simply using technology solely to remove jobs. That's it's only purpose, to remove a few hourly wages from their expenses. So your food gets to you a couple minutes sooner than it would have. That's going to be the only difference the consumer sees is a minute or two. This is solely to save the restaurant money and they even try to milk more out of it by charging you for games.
