Living in Georgia my sausage options are limited. If I’m out of sausage I get shipped from home I usually use Savoies or Conecuh. Came across Zatarains today. I’ve never seen it before. Anyone had it?

I have family in GA and when I am over there I buy some package of smoked sausage with a black dude on the label. It is not earl campbell. It is better than the standard Walmart sausage that you can buy here.

I know what you mean. I once lived in Little Rock and Colorado Springs and the sausage choices were so limited. Particularly in Colorado. I live in Alabama now and I saw the Zatarain’s andouille yesterday in Rouses but I opted for Manda andouille. Manda is nowhere near as good as it was when I was young but it’s damn sure better than Hillshire Farms. Funny how the things you take for granted when living in Louisiana are sorely missed when you don’t have easy access to certain items.

LA has embarrassment of riches when it comes to sausage and specialty meats.

I've tried Zatarains' smoked andouille once. Have another package of it in my freezer.

IMO, it's pretty good. Better than Manda, Savoies, and Conecuh for most uses.

If you can buy it out of state then you're better off than most

Tony's is also selling smoked sausage. Again, just a single opinion but it and New Orleans Smoked Sausage brand are the two best mass marketed sausages there are.

Ask your grocer to start carrying them.

FTR, Ranideauxs Smoked Andouille is my gold standard.

I've tried the Z's before, and really like the Richards andouille. I'd ask at the Walmarks if they can get it for you.

The Richards website will ship to you, also.

Happy Cooking!

Have you tried any local sausage makers? Andouille is a pretty common style. There are a couple of places out here that make decent andouille, like Otto's Sausage Kitchen. Atlanta's gotta have someone making it fresh, no?

Tons of Louisiana foods around ATL, here's one.

LINK

There are many others.

If you are far outside ATL then it can be a challenge.

Are they in the Atlanta area as well?

I tried some this past weekend with some boxed jambalaya. They were decent. Nothing to rave about, I'll prolly buy them again though cause. I don't have many options at the grocery store closest to my house... I'll prolly try the smoked sausage this weekend.

I meant local places like butcher shops. I have seen that product but never tried it.

I would assume that Savannah Sausage Co., which is made in Savannah, GA, would be a local option for someone living in Savannah, GA.

Like I said I meant local butcher shops/local grocery stores that make their own sausage.

Haven't tried Zatarain's. I always purchase the regular not spicy Paul Prudhomme andouille from Rouses. Prudhomme's andouille is what they use at Zea and is my favorite.

Well, you’re in luck. You have a local butcher shop/sausage company right there in Savannah making sausage.

Ok bro. I will be sure to stop in and pick up some pork chops, a brisket and some of their sausage.
