Not sure if this belongs on the outdoor board or here. Thinking of buying one of these cause I'm sick of cleaning the water bowl in my weber smokey mountain plus the thing is a breeding ground for mold. Anyone here have any thoughts or experience on this thing?

I've had one for about 4 years. I have been very pleased with it.

They are great cookers but why not just line the weber smokey mountain bowl with foil?

I think the WSM is the superior cooker.

I have used one. Not my favorite as I don’t love the direct heat cooking, but a lot of people really like it.

I have a DIY one that has racks as opposed to hanging. Works well enough. I'm not the biggest smoker, so YMMV. Mine has a large capacity for both meat and fuel, and the valves are great for controlling temps. I have a heat shield I can use if I don't want direct heat.

The PBC is a rib and chicken machine. I’ve done brisket, 2 pork butts, wings, 5 racks of ribs, 2 16lb turkeys. All phenomenal.

That’s like a 10 dollar fix, get a old Smokey ash tray from academy and lay it on top of the fire basket. That’s what i did before i got the firedial.

I have a DIY one, it’s fairly easy to make. If you make one you will enjoy it much more, and usually it is a conversation piece when people come over.

Another plus about a DIY one is the size. PBC is 18.5" dia. My drum is 22.5" dia.

It does ribs and chicken really well. Can do a salmon or some wings on the grate since they don't need to be done low and slow. I even hang whole pork loins and those come out good. With that said I prefer my offset for any beef or any large pork butts to smoke

I just bought the Oklahoma joe Bronco a few weeks ago. It’s $50 cheaper, and weighs 150lbs compared to 50lbs like the PBC. It’s also got a temperature gauge, unlike the PBC for some reason.
Smoked a brisket, butt, beef tenderloin and chicken in it so far, and will do ribs this weekend. All have been great. Smoked the brisket for about 12 hours and maintained my temps the whole time with one load of charcoal.

PBC is basically designed to be set and forget without temp management. Mine pretty consistently runs at 275.

I've had one for 5 years or so. It's great. I still use it a lot.

That thing looks awesome. Thanks for the tip. I hadn't seen this thing until now. Will definitely be considering this instead.
