The Vieux Carre is a perfect fall cocktail, and can be pre-made in batches. I would recommend leaving out the Benedictine and floating each cocktail upon preparation, but it’s not 1000% necessary.

Recipe:
1 ounce each:
rye
sweet vermouth
cognac
2 dashes each:
peychaud bitters
angostura bitters

Stir with ice and strain into pre-chilled coupe or martini glass, then float with bar spoon of Benedictine and garnish with a luxardo.

Shoutout to everyone who had a vieille tante who drank cherry heering or Manichevitz and Secen Up at holiday gatherings. A sniff of the combo takes me back to childhood.

Satsuma juice and gin is easy to mix and a nice change from mimosas.

Usually do that this time of the year.
My satsumas aren’t as big or as sweet as in the past years.
Hoping a couple more cold fronts might help
