There was a sheet of goals on my doctor's office wall that said:

In 2017:

1) use a crockpot

2) use a spiralizer

3) discover yoga

I thought it was interesting for a doctor, but she's young, so whatever. I had never heard of a spiralizer, but upon looking them up, I notice quite a few. Do any of you utilize this tool on the reg? What do you use it for? Any one and recs?

Yeah I love to make zucchini noodles to replace pasta. It's surprisingly good (though nothing beats the real thing) and really healthy.

Unitaskers make Alton sad.

Pretending vegetables are noodles makes everyone sad.

Yup. Fiancé and I cook almost exclusively off of the inspiralized blog. I like it and what it does, but I hate cleaning the thing. Also not a hue fan of the zucchini noodles bc they tend to release too much water into whatever I'm cooking. Rutabaga and sweet potato noodles are best IMO, but obviously that means no carb cutting. Lately I've been opting for those shirataki noodles for a low carb replacement.

This is a new one on me, but it sounds interesting. How do you usually cook the spiralized vegetables?

Boil, saute, something else?

As you use resources I'm assuming this was addressed somewhere along the way -- why can't you just pull some of that liquid out prior to throwing them into the pan?

Thanks everybody for the feedback. Any recommendations on brand and cookbooks/recipe websites?

My mom gave us one like 2 months ago, and we have used it once. I curse it more than anything, because it just takes up cabinet space. I doubt it will see summer in our house.

Except for the small percentage of folks who truly have Celiac disease, and also for a very large percentage of mislead people thinking that this new trendy "Gluten Free" diet is a healthier option.

After you spiralize the zucchini place the strands in a colander, toss with a liberal amount of salt and allow to drain for 15 to 20 minutes. At this point you can use as is or to pull more liquid out, wrap the noodles in a couple layers of paper towels and squeeze out the remaining liquid.

I've never done them but it seemed common sense. With him pointing towards using a website to guide I figured it must mess up texture or something that made him not do it

If anything it makes the noodles more toothsome and highlights their subtle but fresh flavor. A quick saute in butter with a hit of whatever fresh herbs are on hand makes a fine base for chicken or fish.

It is also particularly good in raw preps - dress the noodles with a shot of oil, a drop sesame oil and a bit of lime or rice vinegar with a few shakes of hot pepper. Great summer dish alongside some shrimp.

I do a quick saute in the skillet. Takes very little time to cook.

The spiralizer I use: Oxo spiralizer

Recipes, not really. Just anything you'd use noodles in, replace with veggie noodles. Be creative.

The pic with the wings was a spur of the moment use of leftovers. I had a few garlic Parmesan wings leftover and a bunch of the sauce had pooled in the bottom of the container. I cooked some zoodles and topped it with the leftover sauce (adding some pine nuts). Very tasty.

Slightly undercook them before you combine the noodles with other food, if that other food is really hot or if it will need to cook together for a few minutes. It's really easy for them to be overcooked.

I never heard of this until I saw this thread Saturday morning.

By the end of the day, I had read up on it at the Inspiralized blog, bought an Oxo Good Grips spiralizer, and made the blog lady's Bikini Bolognese for dinner.

It was great.

Thanks for the tip.
