I have in-laws coming from Germany next week and would like to boil a small sack for them to try. I know they would be expensive if I could find them, but that wouldn't really matter. In New Orleans, but would drive to Lafayette if needed. Thanks.

If you do find a sack of crawfish available...remember they're out of season right now....and the shells will be tough as nails and hard to peal.

They had a sign in front of Schaeffer & Rusich in Bucktown yesterday that said "boiled crawfish". I'm guessing they might have live as well.

places are starting to boil right now to sell. i doubt that they would release live right now. you may have to ask a farmer to get you a sack or two.

B & J Seafood in Hammond has been selling some for the last couple of weeks but they're limited and they don't have them everyday, usually just a couple of random days a week. I think they've been running $4.50 or so a pound. A friend of mine boiled some a week or two ago and they weren't bad to peel but mixed in size, mostly small to medium. Just looked at their Facebook page and they have some today. They post there when they have them.

I love the hell out of crawfish, but I'll be damned if I'd pay that much for some. Hell, at that rate a small 30 lb. sack will run you over $150 with tax included.

For that price I'd rather hit Costco and buy me some whole boneless Prime Rib Eye and cut myself some thick steaks where nothing but a little fat goes to waste.

If I have to have boiled seafood this time of year, it's shrimp or crabs.

That isn't accurate. The season really begins in November/December and runs through June/July. Just that peak months are March through May.

You can get very good crawfish right now. You just pay for it.

very few of my farmer friends have even flooded their fields yet much less put out traps... they're definitely out of season right now.

It all depends on geographical location and the farmer. I saw fields being flooded in rural Acadia Parish this week. Would not be surprised if several fisherman in SW LA are running traps right now. Our resident OB farmers will chime in to give us the skinny
