For some reason, they tried to go for the high end steak restaurant niche out in Broussard. They opened that up around the time the oil field went to shite and it ended up sinking them at both locations
I went there a couple of times and had that rabbit and that pork chop which were damn good. But I thought this is a big place out here and not terribly long after it was done. Nice place though.

I’m not so sure they were going for a high end steak house.. I think it was more of a family style restaurant.. a little more like a Prejean’s in Carencro or Pat’s of Henderson, just with Cajun family style grub. Antler’s understood the process of slow Cajun cooking and making good rice and gravy dishes.

In Broussard they were serving prime ribeyes at Ruth Chris prices, but they had tv’s on the wall and patrons in ball caps. It was just a weird combination to me.

They targeted the oilfield and when it dipped, they lost both locations. A damn shame too, because the Antler's downtown had been there for close to 100 years.

This. Loved Antler's smothered chicken.

Location wasn't great either, Le Triomphe neighborhood alone not enough to support it

The location wasn't terrible when the oilfield was doing well. Perfect place for vendors to take their clients for lunch but without that a lot of places went out of business in that area because there's not a lot going on there at night and on weekends.

places like Pamplona, Social, Pops, Central Pizza, Spoonbill fit the bill for the type of place youre talking about. They're all doing fairly well as far as I can tell
And Tula Taco

Yep. They still offered daily lunch specials like downtown did, but the actual menu had many entrees listed at the $50-75 price point . It was definitely a weird vibe compared to the downtown location

Broussard is blue collar lunch crowd. They are the ones pounding Ultras and wearing caps. Plate lunch heaven if you will. Only served in styrofoam plates, not on dishes with cloth napkins. Antlers’ service out there was inconsistent the dozen or so times I went. I was surprised it closed, but not shocked as
It was pretty much out of place for the area.
Nash’s is the only “upscale” place I can see hanging on in Broussard.

No idea why either. I have tried Nash’s several times and never left eager to return.

Exactly
Hook N Boil, Field of Dreams and Antlers (among others) were solid restaurants that fell victim to the oil field.
In the case of Hook n Boil, they got over extended trying to add a location downtown (inverse of Antlers) at a bad time

I wouldn’t go that far. I’ve never had a bad meal there, but I wouldn’t say any were memorable. It’s good for what it is and where it is.
Tons is a place I can’t understand. Has to be a location thing, cause the food sure ain’t anything to get animated about.
