It is now the National WWII Museum....

The Warehouse District has come out of the blue as a popular tourist destination....WWII anchors it, but I see tourist all the time on Julia, by the CAC, outside of Ogden, in the Food and Beverage Museum, on Fulton, etc....the Warehouse District is on tourist maps now, etc.

This is great for the Ugly Dogs, Herbsaints, Tommy's, Lucy's, etc.....

The area is marketable for sporting events due to its close proximity to the Arena, Convention Center and the Superdome.....

This museum is approaching the level of one of the Smithsonian exhibits. (When it is all said and done I have no doubt that it will be on par or surpass many of the Smithsonian exhibits.) It is a boon for Louisiana and New Orleans.

The Ogden has already gained affiliation with the Smithsonian...it is the definitive Southern art collection in America...and its right across the street.

I agree that it could surpass several Smithsonians...this is a huge deal for the city and everyone who visits NOLA should take advantage of it.

I hope Besh can manage this one better than his other restaurants (August excluded)

Actually, I would include August as well.

I've had better luck at his (well, kind of his) steakhouse. Sounds crazy, but...

Only a complete douche like Tiger Attorney cares about what kind of tourists NOLA attracts. It's all green.

I guess nowhere is your higher education have you come to understand that different demographics typically have more/less money. A cultural tourist is usually highly educated and makes more money. A stupid, drunk, college redneck like yourself only has so much money to spread around when he leaves his hotel room and heads straight for Hustler Club and hand grenades.

There are only so many MS/AL/FL/GA rednecks getting drunk on Bourbon St. and lining up for Mother's that any local can stand. At a certain point, this city would like to regain its status as an international cultural tourism destination...this type of person buys art on Julia St., supports tha local Jazz scene, stays at the Windsor Court, and reserves tables at Herbsaint. No one said we need to foresake the drunken revelry....just diversify within the tourism economic engine.

Furthermore, the more tourists that come to support such things as live music, fine dining and museums; the more us locals benefit from that by more high quality restaurants, concerts and museums. We are a city of 1.1 million that has an entertainment (restaurant, bars, museums, live music) scene of a MUCH larger, wealthier town. So, yes, we as locals have a vested interest in our tourism economy.

Only a complete douche like Lucklee would fail to understand this.

Newsflash: Everywhere outside of the Deep South, there is a large upper middle class that is educated and interested in things like art, antiques, history, museum, restaurants....

...actually, this idea may be foreign only to Bama folks, where the biggest tourist attraction in the state is a museum dedicated to a dead football coach.

Yep...the other aquariums in a five-hour radius are much better.

We have a great aquarium (take it from someone who has been to a bunch of them around America). I hope we do expand it one day...the land is there. After the expansion of the Insectarium, the Aquarium is the next thing they are looking into...per Ron F.

Great work TA.
Let me try it another way for our boy so maybe he can understand it better.

The city appreciates having the fans in town for the sugar bowl. They would rather have a team or teams with rich alumni, etc. The same rooms are going to get filled, but it is how much more money that gets spent on better things. As the restaurants who they prefer.

A Super Bowl is even better in terms of what kind of people come to town. The hotels can charge more, the restaurants make ton more money, etc. These people are eating more expensive meals, ordering expensive bottles of wine, tipping better, etc. The cabbies are going to get tipped better. The high end bars are going to make more money.
If you are going to have the hotels full any way, would you rather have them full of Bayou Classic fans or Superbowl fans?
