This restaurant plans on opening in the WWII Museum in November. Besh will be at the helm...here is a pretty interesting read on his plans for the new canteen/cafe.

On a side note, when the additions to the WWII Museum are done, I am not sure there is a museum outside of DC, NYC, Chicago that could compare (in America). This is certainly going to be the definitive collection of WWII items in the world. It embodies, along with the additions to the Ogden, exactly where this city could/should be. It will attract the upper-end/intellectual tourists that we have always wanted here.

nobody is going to NOLA to visit a WWII museum, sorry.

You couldn't be more wrong. Attendence has been very good at the museum, hence the idea and financing for the expansion.
You should have been here for the D-day celebration/parade they had several years ago. Biggest media event in the world on that day. Tons of dignitaries and people.

Nobody goes anywhere to just see one thing unless they go camping. It's like going to NY just to see the statue of liberty. It's just one more attraction for nola: top food, top zoo, top aquarium, the quarter, top muesem, etc. (I say top as in one of the best, not the best, so don't get all crazy)

you really think a WWII museum is going to attract a bunch of new, intelligent tourists to NOLA. please.

I had the idea that it would be cool if people also opened an authentic German restaurant, an Italian restaurant, a Japanese restaurant, etc. all in the same area right near the museum for a really "immersive" environment. My friends called me a traitor.

It already has been, for several years. They're expanding it to about 3 times the size of what it has been.

Go play on the OT Lee.
There are alot of retired WWII veterans with lots of money who go around the country visiting historic things. They happen to enjoy WWII things quite a bit.
That is just one example.

with the amount of tourist traffic that NOLA already attracts, you're telling me that an expansion to an already existing DDay museum is going to have a significant impact and attract a new breed of intelligent tourists?

Bingo! The success the place has had is what made them do this.

Do I think a #1 in the country muesem will attract tourist? The answer is absolutely. Not everyone who visits nola looks to get plastered on bourbon street

some people don't understand that there is so much more to NO than bourbon st and the quarter

Exactly. Hell I could have all of the fun and entertainment I need just in the warehouse district area.
I promise you, this new museum will get tons of free press after completion. After that, the tourism people for the city and the state are going to market the hell out of it. Build it and they will come.

I really wasn't implying that.

Seems to me you were implying it. I guess nola can only attract unintelligent tourist. I don't understand your point Lee. The DDay meusem is an established attraction. I thinks it's the national dday muesem for the country. Add that to everything else nola offers and you have a lot of things to do on vacation

I hope Besh can manage this one better than his other restaurants (August excluded). He seems to be spreading himself very thin, and it is showing at La Provence, Luke, and his steakhouse.

The answer is YES and there really is no debating it.

You represent your state and university very well, Lee.
Upon completion it will be one of the top attrations in the Southeast. As far as museums go, it will be one of the best in the country.
I am wondering when the National Air and Space Museum was built in DC if there were idiots like you that said it would make a difference.

Leave lee alone! He is a part of the unintelligent tourists that only nola attracts

That is def. a major concern. He is also opening the new Italian place in the Roosevelt next month. He needs to work on his mgmt team or something because I still hear grumblings that August is not up to par with service.
