Mine has been going downhill for a couple of years and predates amazon. The biggest problem is the shelves are always empty for many items I buy. But since amazon bought them, they have hired new people who aren't as hippie as the previous staff and that makes me feel out of place.

The Metairie WF is having a similar decline....one entire section of the meats case has been covered up on my last few visits. The store, overall, has been far less crowded. I feel as though Trader Joe's has taken a big bite out of the Metry WF's clientele. I don't think that particular WF had an organic/health minded clientele, but rather just a shopper looking for something out of the ordinary, or just a step above the usual grocery offerings.

Trader Joe's offers that sort of experience--plus a WAY WAY better pricing point, especially on key produce items. No full service butcher, but for the "run in and grab tomatoes, salad greens, yogurt" shopping trip, I'll pick TJs by a mile.

Trader Joe's in Metry is a complete cluster frick everytime I go. Granted it's always a weekend road trip for me when I've gone so maybe weekdays are better.

Central Market is great, but it's starting to lose its luster.

Most of the HEBs around me have really stepped their game up and I can get a lot of the specialty items there instead of at CM.

The one in Metry has been pretty awful with checkout for at least 2 years. Last week they only had 2 lanes open when I went. Quailty is still fine, and prices on a few items have been lowered. I don’t think it’s Amazon or TJ related as these problems existed at that store before either were there. Guessing it’s management issues.

Only go there once every month or two, and haven't noticed any changes at mine. I usually only go for beer and a couple of slices of pizza for lunch though.

Not sure what Amazon really has to do with any of that. It's not like they went into individual stores and told the employees to keep the place less clean.

Seems they are putting in place new policies that might be affecting morale.

Definitely shoot for the off times at Trader Joe's. It is stupidly crowded on weekends. TJs has to have the world's most clueless employees--they're ultra friendly, but completely and utterly oblivious to the frantic shoppers crowded around them. I can't tell you how many times two or three workers blocked an entire section or aisle, having a good ol chat about whatever, while 30 people seethed around them, trying to get to the smoked salmon/roasted nuts/bagged kale. My better half thinks they're all playing a game: let's see how many shoppers we can block during our shift! Again, these are not pertinent work conversations (ie, go restock the bread aisle)....they're almost always "did you hear about X? I can't believe that...."

But the damn store keeps bringing me back, because the produce is better & more diverse than my local Winn Dixie (absolutely awful) or WalMart (borderline okay, but not diverse/very basic/mainstream)

Yeah I do TJs on weekday mornings if I go. Cashiers are nice, but sometimes it’s so over the top that it’s offputting. I realize that’s an absurd thing to complain about but sometimes the store is so insane that I’m already fuming on the inside, and then the cashier wants a rundown of my weekend plans and what I’m making with the bananas in my basket.

Ha--I feel the same way. I don't mind polite chatter, but it's none of your damn business how I plan to use those brussels sprouts. Also, some of those checkers CANNOT multitask...they start chatting and their checking speed slows WAY WAY down. If you can't talk and scan groceries, please scan the groceries and stop talking. If TJ's had a scan & go app like Sam's, I'd be very happy.

I know you are not in Baton Rouge, but Calvins and Fresh Market are the best here.

I haven’t noticed any difference at my WF. Seems to be the same as ever.

Whole Foods here in Lafayette is a shell of itself since it first opened

Same with BR and the caliber of customer has gone down too. Whole Foods is long overdue for a re-org and re-branding because that funky hipster wing-nut image they promote, isn't working.

Service in Louisiana is terrible in general. All stores. All services. Slow as F.

I lived in Austin for 3 years and the difference was a truly eye opening experience.

I can't imagine how hard it must be for folks to come from a city where even low wage earners happily work to a city where low wage earners don't give a single F.

Back to the topic, I doubt Amazon has been in charge long enough to really make substantial changes. Maybe your local Wholefoods lost their manager and the new one doesn't give a F.

Maybe they trimmed the staff but I don't recall hearing Whole Foods was cutting their staff.

Yup, I'm about to start stopping somewhere else for dinner on my way home from the plantation.
