I think I’m the only person who doesn’t like Parrain’s. Been there three times now (people kept telling me to give it another try) and had an average at best meal. What am I missing?

Swai has been the name for Talapia for half a dozen years now.
Huh?
And screw Acme for not using fresh local fish.
Their bean counters convinced them several years ago to make this change. They charge too much in general in everything that’s it’s ridiculous that they can’t use the local catfish

What's next, Lucky Dogs not made from dogs?

I can remember 10 or 15 years ago when LuLu's took the word "grouper" off their menu for their grouper sandwich. It was about a year after she opened her restaurant on the intercoastal canal. I didn't buy it that day, or since.
I miss her place beside the bait house on Weeks Bay. I am sure some of you remember me posting about the night 25 or 30 years back when we walked in there one night and her table waiter was a guy named Jimmy Buffet who dropped by to see his sister and helped her out when someone didn't show up for work. They were not busy that night. In fact, we were the only folks there. I bought him a beer and he sat with us while we ate. That kind of stuff just doesn't happen any more.
The old days only exist in my memory. What will we be when folks look at a menu and say, "I can remember when they still served Swai here."

Swai and Talapia are interchangeable for trash fish and has been for many years.
Figured everyone knew that.
Acme turned into a chain and lost all remnants of what it was.

I think it is just the average South Louisiana seafood/cajun kind of place. Probably a half dozen other places that are interchangeable. But you know what you are getting.

I really don't think thats the case. Restaurants will advertise tilapia. They will serve swai, but pretend its catfish.

Y’all would be shocked on the amount of restaurants that use that stuff.

You said they were the same fish. Stop trying to reframe it. You were wrong.

I didn't know that. I thought Talapia was dirt cheap and always available so it wasn't a need to subtitute.
I assumed it was catfish that was interchangeable for swai at the dumb restaurants.

I don't think there is a shortage of Talapia or Swai.
They are just trash substitutes for better fish.

What NOLA area restaurants serve wild caught catfish?

Used to like it when I came to BR. Chargrilled oysters were great.

Doubt many, if any, do these days.
The restaurants that would care enough to source wild caught catfish aren't going to be selling catfish.

I don’t disagree with you but if you ask restaurant owners, consumers prefer swai. I think it taste like nothing and has an odd texture.

Do you mean wild caught or can it also be U.S. pond raised?

There are a couple of places in my area that switched to Swai from catfish some years ago. I frequented one of them, but I just stopped going there and won't go to the other place either, unless maybe we would get something else. They flat out said the Swai is cheaper and they would not be going back to the catfish.
There are too many other places serving good catfish, some of which only cook fresh, not frozen. I think most advertise the Mississippi Delta catfish on their menus. Had some the past two Friday nights from two different places. Both were great and there was no fishy taste, so I don't know anything about that observation.

Isn’t there a baw who posts here who runs a tilapia farm?

Don’t remember that. One of the OT regulars farms catfish in MS. Delta is part of his username
