This website is the last place people go and completely bash a place over a one time slip.

I've seen a number of posters suggest giving a place another try or ordering differently when another poster didn't enjoy a meal at a popular restaurant. We've also suggested contacting the manager about poor experiences and I can't recall one of those times that didn't end well. Most of the time, posters don't want free food or a reimbursement. They just want a nice response and to know that the issue is being looked into. It really has to be a large amount of money for someone to want reimbursement, but offering a meal on them to give the place another try is a great way to recoup an otherwise lost customer.

ETA: And, what restaurant has a "closed group" on social media? Even if it was closed, how would he keep someone from posting something negative. Do you have to answer a survey before you are allowed to join the group? The whole thing is preposterous in so many different ways.

It's pretty absurd. He decries the mob mentality he believes happens here, but look at what's happening on that post. Groupthink at its finest.

And I love the idiots saying people just complain to get something for free. Um. Who has asked for anything for free? They won't receive my business when I'm in BR.

Yeah. This is a piece of work.

Also, best pizza in Baton Rouge?
That's laughable.

Any time Smiley Anders is championing your cause, you better take a step back and reevaluate some things.

Didn't Pastime Jr close? It's still listed on the website and in the ever important "FAQ" section. So, if the website isn't up to date, how is one to know that the info on the roast beef gravy is still the case?

I would post my questions on tigerdroppings then wait for the owner's response on the Facebook page.

Either that or write the question down on a napkin then hand it to the cashier.

I'm looking at the FAQ section now. This is the response to the question about writing down your own order:

quote:

The owner, Bob Wesley, joked many times that he decided that in order to ensure accuracy of the customer's order have them write down what they wanted and if the food order came out wrong he could pull their ticket and the explain to the customer this is what you ordered.

While that's a joke I would have easily made when waiting tables (because I know how frustrating customers can be), it's also a jackass thing to say outside of the kitchen with your coworkers. I cannot believe they put that on the website. I can just imagine there being a misunderstanding with someone's order and the restaurant owner digging through ticket trash piles to "prove" the customer is wrong.

It's purely defensive management. It's bizarre.

I have members of my family who have the WORST handwriting. I get a note from them and sometimes have to call to get it deciphered. I don't believe for a minute they can read every handwritten order. I'd bet they have to confirm it and write some notes on it themselves when they can't read it.

Do you know that there are literally hundreds of companies who specialize, for huge monthly fees, that will add positive comments to sites like Yelp and Google that "bump" the negative posts down to bury them past where most people stop reading while increasing the overall score by bring up the average? All that for a fee and interestingly enough, most of these for a fee companies are subsidiaries of the companies that own Yelp and Google. Kinda like a self generating income all protected by law.

This is after all the posters bashed TD and said yelp or whatever are superior. Golden.

Randy, that disclaimer on your post is cute. Might want to go back and read your Facebook TOS agreement on their FAQ page.

Woah. I didn't read his original post.. just all of the comments .

Just went back and read it all. The disclaimer is

quote:

I and many other restaurateurs do not believe in rewarding these habitual complaining customers who are purposefully looking for a free meal.

The majority of people on TD refuse a free meal as well.

And regardless, you can't run a customer service business while you basically just said you don't trust your customer to be honest with their complaints. Sure, some people are just looking for a free meal.. and it's up to you to judge that on a case by case basis. It is NOT the norm and it doesn't happen nearly as often enough to actually run on that premise. I cannot believe he ADMITTED that he basically ignores customer complaints because they're just looking for a free meal.

That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.

I'm shocked.

First, he says the customer should have spoken up instead of posting on TD.. then, he says he wouldn't have taken their complaint with any value.

quote:

So I ask each of you, how do you think I should handle this? Let it go? Reply with free meals?

Hey Randy: I can almost guarantee you that the OP and the posters in this thread do not want anything from you.. free or not.

His post is incredible. I went back and read more of it. It can be picked apart almost line by line in addition to his responses in the comments. I'm flabbergasted by the lack of care of customer service it demonstrates while claiming that to be concern.

I love where he says that he doesn't want to create a firestorm and get bit on the behiney. That's exactly what he did. He may as well have come here and told it "like it is".

The old Carson would have made an alter called RandyWesley and "told y'all like it is." Would've had potential to join my uppity chicken and FloridianDog in the FDB troll hall of fame

Bummer to read this. I used to work for them and I was treated really well by management and Mr. Wesley, so I feel the need to stick up for them.
They have really good reason to withhold extra "gravy". First of all it's not gravy, which I think is obvious. its really au jus or tallow. They use the juices of the roast for several menu items. That stuff is valuable to them, and what they leave in the pot is for the poboys. If they gave out extra cups of the juice, the next person would get a rather dry poboy.
Solution: Order the Poboy Sloppy
The poor counter service is what tears me up though. There are a few people still employed there who are guilty of that and its enraging. I can understnd being court with a customer at the bar. Because a bartender really has to hustle and cant put up with somebodys bs. But at the foodcounter the employees should know to be exceedingly polite, downright friendly. It is a novel system but it does make things move fast. Sometimes the girl on the counter tells you to write it down with a rude tone, that freaking killed me to see.
In summation, it is a good place with quality food. Saying theyve got the best roast beef poboy in Baton Rouge is not a ridiculous assertion (Albeit I dont think people in Baton Rouge care about roast beef). If you are actually offended by this story and are persuaded to not eat with them, send me a private message! Hopefully I could persuade you to reconsider.

Do they use real poboy bread? I've always gotten pizza there.

I guess it doesn't matter, because after witnessing the owner's self-righteous douche-fest on Facebook, I really have no desire to eat there again.
