Yeah. So what? If it irritates them because I say that something was not exactly right, then they need to find another job. Not everything rises to "send it back and get me something else" level.
And to the other poster, I understand that some people are dirtbags and just want something free.

5,6, and 7, if this bothers you as a Server then you need another line of work.
I find myself having to ask for water more times that it being provided for me. It's also rare for a Server to have napkins for my sweating adult beverages and water down on the table, thus, a large accumulation of water builds.
If you took seven different orders from seven different tables, it would be worse that taking seven orders from one table.
If you ask me how things were after I've eaten it, expect a honest answer. If it bothered me enough while I was eating you I would have complained then.
When I don't expect my opinions to matter, I either don't order that item, or I don't go back to that restaurant.

6. Ask for separate checks at the same table. Ok. We realize there’s extenuating circumstances for this - you’re expensing the meal, you’re with a super large group, etc. But for the most part, people who ask for their own check are just too lazy/stupid to do a little simple math. Let's face it, if you can’t do basic math, maybe you shouldn’t be out interacting in public. Also, we're pretty sure all cell phones these days come equipped with mini tip calculators. Dude, there's an app for that!
i hardly carry cash. and i'm putting anyone else's food on my card hoping that they have the cash to pay me back.

I agree with most of that list except the separating checks. It's not that big of a deal for the server to separate them.
ehh... yeah it can be. For a small table, usually not a problem, but when you have a big table, with kids and parents who order and then change seats, are splitting apps across the table and changing orders, its a nightmare. Then one person wants to leave early, but doesn't tell you that one of the apps was supposed to be on his check, and then suddenly no one else at the table wants to pay for it after he is gone. Not all people are like this, but you would be surprised how inconsiderate a lot of large parties can be. That is why most restaurant menus now say "no separate checks for parties of 6 or more".

Separate checks is one of those things that should be clarified up front. Yes - it's a pain in the arse for servers, but if your restaurant allows them, then as a server you should ask in obvious separate check situations (group meal, two or more couples, etc.) if they are needed - not cite the difficulty in separating charges after the fact because the question wasn't asked first.
Conversely, diners who ask for separate checks at the end of the meal and then get steamed that it's taking a long time to check out are people who can't be satisfied.

If the server is on his game then he should have entered all the orders in the computer under separate seat numbers. Then all you have to do is print out each seat separately. That's how I was trained when I waited tables and most restaurants will have computers that do this.
How long ago did you wait tables?
When I worked at a nice restaurant in town about 9 years ago and even we didn't have the computers with seat numbers. All the items on a check were added into one bill, and were later separated item by item. It's no big deal... until you're deep in the weeds and a table all of a sudden drops the split check on you. I've literally seen a group of people complain about having one coke on their bill that did not belong. And yes, this was at a rather upscale restaurant.
Like another poster said, for a table of 2-4, no biggie. Not so for the very large tables. One Christmas, I had a party of 30 with separate checks. Problem was, people who were on the same check weren't sitting near each other. It was like "he's with me.. she's with me (pointing across the table), and put him (waaaay across the table) on mine too". Those situations can break your night as that was your one and only table, and not to mention your service for the table would suffer due to all the confusion.
I'm sure the new computer programs make this a non-issue, but it certainly wasn't trivial back in my waiting days.

I really don't care if my server hates me, I'm not there to forge lifetime friendships, I'm there to eat what I want.

About 7 years ago at the glorious upscale dining establishment of Ruby Tuesday. I hated that place, but it paid the bills for a short bit.

Nobody's saying that you and your waiter should be best buds, but common courtesy in any situation should be warranted.

Mentioned in the comments of the article, I also hate the new thing where servers don't bring you the coin-change. Yes, I was probably going to leave the coins anyway but that is beyond presumptuous.
I was a waiter for 2.5 years in college and never once gave coin changed. And never once did anyone complain nor did I ever notice tips being affected by it.
On the rare occasions where I pay with cash at a restaurant, I notice I don't receive coins. And it really doesn't bother me because I would leave them anyway.

waiters sure do feel entitled in this day and age.

Bull shite.
If you're too stupid to do the math as the waiter you need to get a job driving the short bus.

While we're discussing checks, I have a question.
I reserved the upstairs of Rock N Sake for a bachelorette dinner coming up in June. It will be a party of 25.
I am trying to think of the best way to make it easiest on the servers. All on one ticket isn't really an option because I'm the "host" and surely can't afford 25 meals on my debit card even if they paid me in cash. I'd have to deposit it first
So you think I should just announce to all my guests that we'll each get a separate check and if you want to pay for someone else's meal, include their receipt with yours and your card? That way, the server doesn't have to figure out who is with who and whatnot.

Err...how about putting it on a real credit card?

I don't have a credit card. I'm in college with 0 debt and don't plan to have any.
That's not my question anyway :) I was just asking if I should leave it alone and let people do what they want.. or if I should announce that everyone let the server give them an individual check and if they want to pay for someone else's, put both receipts with your money.
I thought maybe me doing that would make it easier on the server so they don't have to worry about who's with who and who had what.

I agree. I've never felt it was rude for the server to ask before ordering "Will this be all on one check or would you like me to separate them out?"
I've also been in situations where it was obvious everyone came separately and the server just did separate checks without being asked. No big deal. If someone wanted to pay for more than one check, it was done. The person who ordered an appetizer was charged for it, and if it was shared, others may have given a few bucks to the person charged.

i waited tables for awhile to pay my tuition at LSU ... wait folks today are a bunch of fricking self-entitled whiners ... they're putting up with the same crap that just about everyone that works with the general public in any retail business does ... and for the most part, if they are halfway decent at it .. they are making better money ... now there are "rules" that the customer has to abide by so that they don't "piss off" their precious wait person that willfully took the position ? frick that ...
