I'm planning on installing a 44" workstation sink in my kitchen. It's a double bowl sink which would have a 13" bowl and a 30" bowl.

I'm trying to decide if I should get individual faucets for each bowl or 1 faucet in the center. I'm concerned a center mounted faucet won't reach the small bowl.

Here's what I'm thinking:

If I go single faucet:

If I go double faucet:

Thoughts?

The potential germs in that thing makes me queasy.

Food & Wine your kitchen sink is probably dirtier than your toilet

No more so than any other sink. Maybe you should clean up after yourself

What?

Op, I’ve never seen a double faucet so I don’t know how it would look. Is this a likely forever home? Some people may be put off by double faucets in resale but it would be a fairly easy fix. I could personally never have a single sink in my home as both my wife and I like to defrost or otherwise have raw meat in the sink. I prefer to have one sink to use for that while still having a sink available for normal use. Also nice to have one sink with soap soaking dishes with another available to rinse or whatever. Single sinks take forever to fill with water.

That’s a huge sink, I like it. Not sure it’s not overkill though haha.

Eta: I now have your first faucet style after having your 2nd in the past. Ill never go back to the 2nd now. So much more freedom with the sprayer and range of motion. Also taller to filler up things like pitchers easier.

I have a single bowl, which I like and I have the faucet that you will use if you go single.

However, I really like that sink you posted. The think I like about my single bowl is that it will fit most any dish that I have to wash. The one you posted looks like it'd get the job done as well.

Probably not but I'm renovating it nicely

One of my main reasons. And I grew up with double bowl sinks.

It might be. But w/ the ledge etc where you can put cutting boards and racks and such, it's almost like counter space when you're not using it as a sink. I figure I'll put a cutting board or the steel rack over the small sink the majority of the time when I'm not soaking things.

. Both faucets are touch/touchless and pull out cords w/ sprayers so functionally the same. More so aesthetics than anything. 2 of the 1st faucet would be too much going on visually IMO.

Hate it when the sink is on the island. Like my sink under the window.

I used to read a kitchen forum at the Garden Web (it's now part of Houzz) and the people who had this sink absolutely loved it. I don't have one that large, but I do have a single bowl sink and I'd never go back.

Mine will be under a window. My island will be a blank slate. Thanks for your input.

I've got a 75/25 split sink, and I really like it. The big section is large enough to soak a half-sheet pan, and the little side compartment can be kept clean as a prep sink or handwashing side if you're soaking big things. Or the big side is sufficient to wash a big mess of greens. I agree about the sink under the window--if your renovation involves changing windows or trims, consider using an extra-wide windowsill above the sink, it can function as a shelf/ledge for display or storage.

I also put a 22" x 30" sink in my laundry room (about 10' from the kitchen sink)....so I tend to use it for especially dirty or large jobs. It's nice to be able to scrub out a 5-gallon water cooler or small ice chest inside the house. You can never have too much sink space, imho.

How big is your split sink? 1 or 2 faucets?

I went from a double bowl to a single bowl when I renovated my kitchen a couple years ago. I do use rather large pots when I cook and found a double bowl sink was just a bit tight when washing and rinsing them. The single bowl sink gives me all the room I need and would not go back to a double bowl now.

I would rethink the double faucet thing though. Seems like a waste of a faucet to be honest. Mount the faucet in the center and get one with a nice spray attachment and be done with it.

That sink gives me a kitchen stiffy.

Huge double bowl, with a 25/75 split and a slightly higher partition than the one in that picture would be ideal for me. One side would be a huge cleaning sink, one side a smaller prep sink. There would be disposals on both sides. I love the functional inserts in that picture, too, that break up the visual look of the large sink nicely. There are so many things you can do with a sink like that inset into the counter with rails and custom inserts for how you use your sink.

I'd think a single faucet properly placed would work. Two faucets just seems like it would look strange.

It's a damp dark opening to a sewer. Im sure the 130 degree water kills all the germs.

The thought of 2 $500 faucets does not appeal to me either.

If it can reach both bowls w/o having to pull the cord out, I think that's what I would prefer.

That's my issue. I feel like I would have to place the faucet off-center to fill both bowls.

Would 2 faucets or an offset faucet look stranger?

Just remember that if you go with a single center mounted faucet with a retractable handle that you can pull out to use the smaller sink, you're probably going to have to sit there and hold the handle while the sink fills. For me, that would severely limit how much I'd want to use it.

I don't know if I've ever seen one outside of commercial type fixtures that is long enough to be able to reach both sinks. Maybe someone makes a free-standing fixture that is built like a pot filler with the joint in the middle that lets it reach while still being manageable when it's folded up?

Exactly. So if my center mount can't reach both bowls w/o just turning the spigot left or right, I'll go insane.

So use one faucet and forget the center mounting. Mount it closer to the sink partitions. Voila, it will reach both parts without being extended. That's what I have....I promise, the fact that the faucet isn't centered across the the whole space of the sink looks fine.

Just be sure that the pull-out is sufficiently long to reach the far corners of the bigger sink compartment.

ETA: the off-center faucet (closer to the sink divider) actually works in my favor, making the sink more open & accomodating to oversized/weirdly shaped items.

What size sink you got? Can you post a pic?

eta: I found a couple (not many) pics of a large double sink w/ offset faucet and you're right, it doesn't look too bad. Sadly none of those sinks are centered on a large 60" window. I guess I feel like the faucet should be centered on the window. Maybe I'm overthinking this?
