You've gotten a million recommendations.
I will only say I ate at Emmer & Rye for my little bro's 30th in january; it was damn good. A very good menu with "dim sum" carts (not asian food just carted around). We got everything and a bottle of orange wine.
It was a fun time and I'd go again

Lots of good suggestions.
Definitely check out Easy Tiger if you like a good beer selection and an in general cool place. They have a nice patio on Waller Creek.
Rainey St has lots of good places for beer / cocktails.
Where to eat?
- Hopdoddy - if the line isn't too long, it's a great burger that you can get medium rare.
- Lichas Cantina - nice place w/ interior Mexican cuisine - Downtown on east 6th
- Curras - like Lichas, but more of a dive. Awesome food though.
- BBQ - plenty of good choices. La BBQ (may be a decent wait), Mickelthwait, Stiles Switch, Valentina's, Terry Blacks are all good. Franklin is the best if you don't mind waiting. I personally don't think it's worth the wait as it's marginally better than those other places I've listed.
- Pizza - I'm a big fan of ABGB and Pinthouse. Homeslice is good, and at a time was the best, but there are so many different pizza options in the city now that it, like Torchy's, doesn't stand out so much. I've also heard nothing but good things about Via 313.

Where do the food trucks generally gather? Rotational or generally same spot?

There are some "trailer parks" and some trucks are just posted up at certain spots.

Shipley's has the poorest excuse for a kolache in Texas.
the best kolaches I ever found were in ellinger which is a stout drive for a kolache before work. limiting it to "in Austin", shipleys was very much workable.

I live in Laffy, so pretty much looking for things i can't get at home.
and as soon as I read that.... I cannot help but recall fondly my favorite Cajun restaurant in Austin ... Evangeline Café. for as far away from Evangeline Parish, they do try quite hard (and well) giving the feel and flavor.
as I have become more awake.... isolate this dinner/lunch list to places that may also be having live music at the same time and enjoy. hopefully you'll be going soon because much more into april its likely going to be Texas hot.

Evangeline is damn good, and one of the few places in town that is legit for Cajun food. The owner is actually from Lake Charles.

Yeah, I would definitely recommend Easy Tiger. It's a nice spot for beer and some really good pastrami.

Hopdoddy burgers are overrated and I find the patties are kind of spongy in consistency. If you want a great medium rare burger just go to Luke's Inside Out next to Gibson Bar. Or go to Peche and split a burger and the duck mac n cheese while enjoying a good cocktail.

I'd recommend Via 313 over all of those places. ABGB is a cool place but the pizza is bland. You can find pizza like homeslice or pinthouse anywhere. Via 313 is unique and always delicious. Even more so after a few beers.
I'd also recommend Lazarus Brewing for beer. It has a cool atmosphere and some really good beers. Plus there are a lot of other places nearby to eat(including via 313 and suerte) and drink(whistlers).
It's a great time of the year for El Alma's rooftop patio. Get an advacado margarita and some queso fundido. Then you could head next door and get your fill of BBQ at Terry Blacks.
There's also a newer taco truck, Vaquero Taquero, that I've heard really good things about. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

Walk a few blocks down to Zilker Brewing for better atmosphere and better beer IMO

Odd Duck
Uchi
Bangers
Prohibition Creamers
ABGB
Easy Tiger
Any BBQ place out of: Blacks, La Barbecue, Valentina's
I highly recommend venturing out to Dripping Springs for a day: Jester King, Treaty Oak, Revolution Spritis, & Argus Cidery.

If you're in the mood for BBQ Sandwiches or BBQ nachos, hit up Slab BBQ.

Yes, Hruskas In Ellinger are the best there is the be had. Czech stop in West is a close second. However, shipley really does struggle in the kolaches game. IMO the best in Austin are at Batch craft beer and kolaches.

La Barbecue is better than Franklin. Must get brisket and a beef rib.
Via 313 for Detroit style pizza.
Holy Roller for brunch.
Uchi for the Sake Social. Get there early.
Loro is an amazing Asian smokehouse by the owners of Uchi and Franklin BBQ.
