Looks like he just listed the Italian places in Laff. Alesi's is good, but not the best at anything they do. Imonelli's is good, but you could easily find its match in BR. i havent been to the other two.

[ quote]People would rather cook a pot of chili, take pictures of it, and start a LOOK AT ME! thread around here these days ..[/quote]

At least they are COOKING. It's a start, and quite honestly I'd much rather look at pictures of people actually fricking doing something that read mindless bullshite drama or nonsensical infantile ramblings from a bunch of lazy asses on shite that amounts to pretty much nothing but a waste of time on the OT. Regardless, I'm certainly not going to spend time on it if it doesn't interest me. Food interests me, which is why I suppose it doesn't bother me when people post pictures of work they did. He'll, if anything it's an encouragement that not everyone is sitting on their asses every night ordering takeout. Some actually make an effort to cook and other create, Why would them taking pictures make me mad? Is it better to talk about it or show proof that they aren't really full of shite?

shite .. like i said in the post that you chopped up .. there are a handful of people who it is obvious to me know what in the hell they are talking about relative to preparing gourmet dishes at home .. i love reading their stuff on here and have picked up some really really good tips .. you can also tell who on here is just a genuine foodie with a passion that they want to share and who is just a pretentious little attention whore with a pseudo sense of culinary superiority masking an inner low self esteem .. that's the guy that has to post a pic of a pot of chili .. because he wants five or six internet strangers to give him obligatory, patronizing "ohhhhhhhh .. that looks really good .. is that four or five alarm ??" posts ...

i like getting the scoop on restaurants .. i like reading the posts of genuinely talented cook at home chefs .. i could really care less that tigerboy4178 off of hooper road made a fricking pot of chili out of a powder mix and a couple of pounds of ground chuck that he fricking bought at wal mart .. big fricking deal ... who can't do that shite ? i can do that shite and i suck in the kitchen ... do i run out to alberston's tonite, buy a jar of ragu, a bag of frozen meatballs, pasta, cook it like any of the other 5,471 posters on this board could and then snap a pic of it for everyone to ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh and ahhhhhhhhhh over so that i can go to bed thinking "wow !!!!!!!!!! tigerdroppings posters approved of my mundane, run-of-the-mill spaghetti i cooked tonite !!! yay .. " ...

i come here to learn things .. not to watch people taking pics and posting them of shite everyone does every day ..

I find my cook books, not recipe books necessarily, but essential cooking books do a better job in teaching me both technique and pairings than this board. It's not as if you can't learn from posters on this board, because you can, and I have, but it's just that more often than not I've found both recipes and such from the public is full of shortcuts and not necessarily textbook as you will find in true textbooks of cooking.

In any case, people I'm sure have a bunch of different reasons why they post here and review the posts. Perhaps some of it is learning, and others come here to just talk food, which is what I do, and still others might come to boost their egos. HEY, maybe they need that boost to elevate their cooking self confidence, or maybe it is to blow some smoke? I don't know, but I try and give them the benifit of the doubt, and if they're in the kitchen, and half assing it, it's still far better than not cooking at all... Baby Steps Bob, Baby Steps. I just enjoy people actually cooking food again.

Hell, I'm looking for someone to post some crazy shite that blows my mind, and inspires me to attempt it. I'll occasionally post pics for said purpose, not to puff my chest out, but to light a fire perhaps. I WANT YOU TO TRY IT. Hell, I have no secret shite. I'll share everything I know because I learned it from others who are considered true professionals in the business, some in books and others in my family, and still others who are classically trained. That doesn't make a good cook a good cook, some mythical secret ingredients horseshite or whatever. There's no such thing. Execution and technique is the one thing people need more than anything else, that and principle. I'll promote that till I die. It's the one thing that all our culture hinges upon, and it's very important to me.

Again, there's a whole lot of reasons I'm sure people post here, even just sharing a common LOVE for food and cooking. But for me, whatever gets them in the kitchen and start cooking is great by me, and if they want to post pictures of their creation or efforts at the end of it, I'm tickled. Who am I to kick the knees of an infant trying to take his or her first steps in life? Nobody here is in the same stage of food or cooking as the other. Some are a wealth of knowledge, and others are just peaking in the door to see what's going on. Hell, at one point in my life, I didn't know what the hell I was doing, and putting chicken thighs and cream of mushroom soup in a pyrex dish and in the oven was a big accomplishment for me. At that time it was, but now I'm more mature in my cooking so not so much, but I never forget where I was when I first learned to turn the heat on as a college kid. Over time I learned to love it and understand just why cooking and food is so critical to our culture, to man in general, and our health and quality of life. At 18 I had no clue, but now in my late 40's and many years of cooking behind my belt and immersing myself in my hobby and love I understand fully what at 18 I would have probably thought pretty out there.

I honestly have not thought this about any poster on the F&D board. Everybody brings something valuable to the table. Even if I disagree or don't cook or like the same kind of food, the posters on this board are all ligit. I've also (with the exception of Powerman's backyard carne asada) never seen any pictures posted where I thought, "damn.. what's up with THAT??"

Here is how the Times of Acadiana does the Best of Acadiana list:

They get a ton of nominations, then they contact the nominees and find out who wants to pay the $500 fee to be in the voting. Pay the fee, get on the list.

Then they have the vote. I am guessing but the 225 list is probably done the same way
