The fired peacemaker is the most overrated PoBoy in the city.

I am a big big fan of the Roast Beef at World Deli in Metairie, but being in Metairie, I know it will never get the love that it deserves

#1 on the list kills me. How you mention Walker's BBQ, but not the place they're located within, Castnet? Castnet has some of the freshest, highest quality seafood poboys in the city ... been there over 25 years.

No knock on Walker's, I love them ... good people and great food.

I seriously doubt that the author has even been to Walker's, though. Likely writing based solely from Jazz Fest experience. Most people are afraid to go to the East these days.

No reason to be afraid to go to the East to get a poboy. Seriously.

The Peacemaker at Bevi is one of my favorite poboys in the city. Can't comment on the other one

I agree wholeheartedly. But you know damn well people avoid the East like the plague now because of the crime rate, and i don't blame them (even though i grew up there and my little brother still works at Castnet).

That being said, if any of the FDB posters reading this ever venture out there to Walker's, be warned ... like a lot of other BBQ spots, they might be closed as they don't keep regular hours and close when they run out of product.

If that's the case, go next door to Castnet. Suggestions:

Speckled Trout Po-Boy - They clean a fish to-order for each sandwich.

Oyster - can't get any fresher, as they're shucked on site.(they have a high volume shucking house in the back)

All of the others are good as well, but those two are my favorite.

Breaded veal with baked macaroni (hose pipes) is the special on Tuesdays and it always sells out.

What about a local rapper's chicken wing truck ? I've been wanting to check out Hot Spot Food Truck. You want to go and drive ? I think your vehicle with the "Feel the Burn" sticker will be safer than my car.
