No one is raising their prices to drive more profit, the margins are already slim and it’s necessary if you want to keep pace. Positive traffic is the driving force behind any successful FF place, no one wants to risk that at the cost of inflated pricing. The data says we are already there, though.
DoorDash will deliver to my house a 9 piece dark plus four rolls from Chicken Shack for $13.45. It's $11.40 in store.
Cane's is straight up gouging people and hoping that habit and laziness will keep pushing the needle up.

Just think of it as your contribution to NIL.

Frady's has been a solid choice for decades.
Dempsey's,Mandich , the corner stores with poboys and the hot tamales carts on Desire and Poland...
Nice options in the old St.Claude to the River 9th Ward.

I’m not familiar with a Chicken Shack. Is it like a mom and pop BR chain?
Well DoorDash is taking 30% off the rip. Somewhere between price gouging and maintaining your margins is a business willing to “lose money”, I guess. That is a nice deal. Nonetheless, dark meat, bone in chicken is substantially cheaper per/lb than a boneless tenderloin. Not an apples to apple comp.
Consider Canes, they pay managers well, they pay crew well, they have many employees working at once, they have tech fees with the app etc. Again, don’t know Chicken Shack but I’d venture to guess they aren’t incurring similar costs if they are a mom and pop joint. Everyone loves Canes for their friendly, fast, accessible service, but of course that comes with a cost.
I don’t eat Canes but I think they catch more hell bc we are closer to the origin, they see Todd Graves making money hand over fist, and it sounds like many think the food is shrinking. I understand the frustration but there is more under the hood, I reckon

My wife and I are about to leave on a long road trip soon and we are preparing to make sandwiches and bring food with us. The past few times we stopped for fast food we wasted a lot of time, money, and calories.
We do that, pasta salad on the road is a treat. We had to make a rule, no eating until we hit a rest stop, it's too temping to snack on, so I bury the cooler in the back where we can't get to it. Another goodie is to get small buns and make mini-muffs. If it's a two day trip, we cut up a Costco roto chicken for day two.
We go about 500 miles a day, no further, with just bathroom breaks and gas.

I’m a small business owner… I’m well aware of all of these. Yes everything is up, but few things are up 50%. If a meal was $8 it should be $12 now. Instead it’s $15-18.
Let’s also not forget they have gotten very good at making a profit now too and reducing labor costs. Yes payroll per employee is way up the avg employee needed is down in general.
You know what places are up the least as pointed out many places? The local diners and fast food places. Local chicken finger places.
I also think it’s somewhat laughable if you don’t think there’s tons of corporate gouging going on. There’s also tons of corporate waste, to be fair.
One of the reasons old local places are able to keep their costs low is they have owned their land. The reason these places like a Hardee’s that never seems busy stays open is the owner has it all paid off because he’s owned it for 25 years. While many of these newer fast food places all lease, and their lease prices are through the roof. But much of that is market driven by insane commercial property costs.
ETA: margins? Come on. They aren’t slim. What’s the food cost on a caniac? $5? I don’t even know what’s in it but a couple of chicken tenders, fries, Cole slaw?, and toast? Throw in a sauce? Their ‘margin’ on the food is well well over 200%.

Are you eating an entire Caniac by yourself? If so then the price should be the least of your concerns.
Otherwise, feeding 2 people for under $18 is pretty fair IMO.

Chicken Shack is indeed a local shop. With that said, generally speaking, larger businesses should be able to save costs due to economies of scale.
And I’ve got nothing against Todd. He’s free to make all the money. The Delpits certainly make money off the Chicken Shack. I just think people are silly for continuing to pay prices that made the man a billionaire, with a B

What do you think the profit margin is on a Cane’s? They are slightly different beast being privately owned, but total COGs alone on a drive thru QSR generally run between 50-60%. Conservatively, his marketing probably accounts for another 10%. Then add in utilities, repairs, rent, CC fees, delivery fees, tech fees for maintaining a canes app, uniforms, small wares etc etc etc.
The margins are indeed slim. This is a volume game, Canes makes their money off the output of their drive thrus. Small menu allows them to push cars through quickly. That’s your revenue driver, not $18 meals meant to fit two people.

Robert Irvine on Restaurant Impossible would say $5 food cost/30%=$16.66 so round that up to a $16.99 menu price
