Well at least the forecasts take the next 24 hours of rain into account....

The problem is the next 120 hours after this frontal line. Hopefully the forecast is dry.

The Battle of Baton Rouge is gonna be fought at Duncan Point. Forget topping, that's trivial. Duncan Point has to hold the pressure, which will be tremendous. A point is like the wing of a plane, except friction on a levee creates erosion instead of heat. The water does not compress, it's like a pressure washer.

So are you thinking that it could just cut through Morrisonville (essentially), or something else?

Is that a bend in the river?

It looks like the tip
....near nicholson would be more of a problem.

The scouring to the levee there is going to be massive. I hope your local levee districts are better than NOLA's.

A few (likely dumb) questions for those knowledgeable folks:
1. What is the worst case, yet realistic, scenario for south LA?
2. Is Baton Rouge in any danger, and if so, what particular areas would be in trouble and which would be safe?
3. Same question, but for New Orleans area?
Thanks

Can we start emergency building a levee along I-10 in BR, and then if needed, we can blow the main levee north of that to save south of it.
That whole area could use a fresh start anyway.

Here is a good article I just found on the KNOE Channel 8 website in Monroe about Gov. Bobby Jindal and his plans to handle the situation.

Man some of you people are freaking . Calm down..
Alot of good info and bod info going on in here.
Still no one has told me. At Morganza has the water topped the Potato Levee at the lower structure letting water into the Forbay ?
I just want to go crawfishing

I would say there is cause for concern rather than actual danger as of now.
When the crest is staying put, or going higher, AFTER they open up both the BC and Morganza a good bit...thats when you can start considering to panic.
The worst case scenario is easily the Mississippi changing course into the Atchafalaya basin.
May turn shipping ability down the Mississippi into a seasonal thing, will take out I-10 and a frickton of major pipelines of oil and NG, and both NO and BR depend on the river for their supply of drinking water and cooling water in industries...that will go. Oh, and that whole Morgan City area? Thats all basically gone as well.
