The most important thing is no more major rainfall north of Memphis in the MS or Ohio Valleys. If there is a major rain event all bets are off.

I wonder if there is a point where they temporarily shut down unnecessary commercial traffic for wake concerns.

If they are saying it will hit 19.5 feet with the BC fully open and the levees only protect till 20 feet....

Right. As far as my understanding goes, they don't correct for whatever effects spillways may have other than NO.

So BR probably won't get as high as they are saying it will now, because Morganza will take it down some.

I do business with all the barge line companies from Darrow all the way south to Davant. They are all making major preperations. It looks like barge traffic could be shut down.

Yeah, I went out to the (BR) levee by the flag poles today to take a look and I don't see how it's going to get high enough to top the levees. Projections only have it rising another 10 or so feet before the crest and it has more to go than that.

I dont think anyone was saying it would get high enough to top it. 47.5 feet is still contained within the levee

So when all of the professionals and experts say that it will crest at 47.5' and the levee tops out at 48', then they are all wrong because you gave it the 'eyeball test'?

Oh, okay.

Just saw the 19.5 projection doesn't consider Morganza being opened.

:whew:

Makes you feel for the folks in MC.

No matter what happens, they are getting fricked.

Its only a question to what degree.

I am sure everyone who looks at the levee has the latest laser surveying equipment in the trunk of their car. I know I do.

Yes, but it's supposed to crest at 47.5, so...

Besides, the levee system isn't at a uniform height - there are high spots and low spots. Maybe you were at a high spot?

I know what you're saying, but there are too many experts saying that, as of now, we're going to be about 6" from the river topping the levee.

Typo on my part! Meant to say 47.5<48. But I know, you're right. Was probably at a high spot and it will be cutting it extremely close. I guess with a number that close they really will have to keep a close eye on rainfall then.

The issue IMO is these levees haven't ever had this type of pressure on them. A breach is much worse than a topping.

For the love of God I hope a low point doesn't coincide with a lower income community.

I can see it now
