I know all of this will most likely effect the levels of lake verrett, but how much do you expect it to rise? My grandparents have a camp on the lake and was wondering. I can remember it flooding onetime about 10 years ago but I don't remember the exact year.

Mud, I don't remember what your field is specifically, but wouldn't this have something to do with it?

ok sid I have thought about it and you are not quite right. on the apron of the levee the slope would be for every three feet over one foot up but the slope would change to one for one

Just GO whenever you want to and stop worrying about the po pos!
Even if they blast it from every tv, radio, and billboard, there are still people who are going to go try to look.
Sure they might have the power to ticket/arrest you, but whether they're likely to is probably a situational call. Don't be an arse, and be ready to pay the ticket if you get it. Consider it an opportunity cost!

They'll tell you to get the hell off and arrest you if you don't.
They won't just arrest you on sight.

i have a question for the experts on here. ya'll are talking above my level.
a buddy of mine dad has a camp on 3 mile lake close to port barre in spillway. buddy is trying to talk dad into moving his camper. hard headed old man does not think he needs to because he has it blocked up and lake has never flooded.
whats ya'll's opinion on where he is?

LATEST FORECAST shows 19.5' at New Orleans. What does this mean?

Depends on how many people are doing it and if it becomes a problem.

I don't know but my dad & brother's camp is on the Red River about 30 minutes from Natchez. They're getting ready to empty the camp and already have ServiceMaster lined up as well as contractors to come in and repair/rebuild.
I'm really hoping that they're ready for nothing. They're going Saturday am to load everything ... 4 trailers lined up. Good luck.
Their problem from what I'm told is ONLY if the Morganza Spillway is opened.
Anyone have any thoughts on the opening of it???

Since the levees only protect to 20' it could get ugly.

In 1973 when the MSpillway was opened this camp that my dad now owns had 8 - 10 feet of water in it ... at least it's "just a camp" and not their home. But still it stinks to have what you've worked hard for in the way of potential destruction.

First time I've seen NOLA above 17'.
If I remember correctly...NOLA's levee's are to 20'.
Looks like some pucker time down there, as well.

My understanding is, levees in N.O. top out at 3 feet above flood level, or at 20 feet.

Most definitely. If the MS river levee were to fail in NOLA it would be much worse than Katrina.

Makes you wonder if they'll start blowing levees futher north to keep the water from getting that high in New Orleans.

quote:They allow people to run on the levees. Are there different rules for times of flooding? Hell, 90% of the LSU student body doesn't even know that the river is about to flood
I have no doubt that much of the levee rules are governed by statute and regulation.
