I really hate that. It really added something to the community, and improved the view from across the river. But damn. How stupid were they to build it there?

The smart ones are getting out early. Hopefully for no reason, but better safe than sorry.

Scott Farm Equipment out of the Vidalia area is moving all of their huge machinery. Just saw it come through Jena and turn going south on 127 towards the Nebo area.

Great article! Here's an excerpt talking about the Great Flood of 1927:

quote:

Another break on the west bank allowed one to travel by boat over normally dry land from Vicksburg, Miss., 75 miles to the west to Monroe, La. As one eyewitness wrote, "For thirty-six hours the Delta was in turmoil, in movement, in terror. Then the waters covered everything, the turmoil ceased, and a great quiet settled down…. Over everything was silence, deadlier because of the strange cold sounds of the currents gnawing at foundations, hissing against walls, creaming and clawing over obstacles."

Pretty damned awful.

The levees through Baton Rouge range from a low point of 47.3 feet to as high as 51 feet, but the city-parish is currently re-surveying the levees to get a more-detailed look at the levee heights, East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Kip Holden said Tuesday.

I'm just curious...I grew up in the little town of Waterproof, not far from Ferriday, a long long time ago...Is this little town protected? I sorta remember the levee's in Waterproof but I was like 6 when we moved away from there.

Anybody Know?

I got alot of family up there. My grandfather has a picture of the "Waterproof Post Office" flooded. He laughs about it now, but said it wasn't very funny at the time.

Rummy - Please help me out.

I own a bunch of property in and around Port Allen.

Do I need to worry? If so, how worried should I be?

So a little bit of a side track but can someone tell exactly why the river wants to jump? Is it bc the ATC is a shorter and more direct route?

Yes. The MS river would LOVE to jump over to that route.

I too am wondering just how concerned I should be, since I live in Brusly.

Scottie P,
Maybe you are the right person to ask? Do know when, or at what river stage, I should consider moving my belongings to higher ground? I've read the entire thread and I think I understand the gist of what's happening and what may occur, but I haven't heard much about what may be instore for PA/Brusly/Plaquemine levees and roads (LA1) over the next couple of weeks. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Yeah. I'm curious when they're expecting the crest around the natchez area.
