What do the different levels represent. today, tomorrow, thurs, etc or what?
Yeah. That graph is a day old so 34.4 is yesterday, 34.9 is today, etc and 47.5 is crest, and 5/21 is crest date.

if I had to guess, poorly maintained.
you'd be wrong
Good.
Personally, my biggest concern is the morganza being opened and allowing the MS river to divert into the Atch river or the ORCS failing, which would also allow the river to divert. Morgan city would be a washout, along with plenty of other towns along the atch. The economic implications would be huge.

I JUST LIKE THE LIL FELLER....BTW CAN YOU DECIPHER THE REST OF THAT SCHEDULE??
What do you want to know? The river is going to continue to rise until the 22nd of May and then make a slow fall.
WELL FIRST OF ALL I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW MANY FEET THE RIVER LEVEES IN UPTOWN NOLA ARE ABLE TO SAFELY HOLD BACK. WHEN YOU SAY 22FEET, PERSONALLY I HAVE NO PERSPECTIVE... CAN YOU PLEASE OFFER SOME PERSPECTIVE?

if everything goes to plan and the control structures do their job, everything should be fine
there are a lot of doomsdayers in this thread though
nevertheless, its something to keep an eye on
more than likely, some farms and farmland will be inundated and maybe some camps and hunting property affected

Angola - fricked
BR - possibly fricked
Morgan City - possibly fricked
NO - not likely to be fricked
The MR changing course - we're all fricked

The ORCS could be in danger of being overwhelmed if the Morgana isn't opened, correct?

Just curious.
As long as it's not the Calcasieu River, I think I'm safe.
ETA: I am going to Baton Rouge on the 21st. Let's hope the Atch bridge doesn't wash out by then.

or the ORCS failing,
this is why they built a second one along a new channel
the concern for the older one is only when allowing flow, when the second was built, i believe they had intentions of decommissioning the original, but were able to save it

Unless the MR jumps course (my favorite theory of the thread),
not a theory.
The river wants to "jump" right now. Has for quite some time. We have it set up so it can't to keep the port of NO/BR viable.
The question is not a question of if, but when mother nature says we are fools for trying to stop her.

I have no fear that BR or NO will get washed out. They'll let the river change course and wax morgan city before that happens IMO.

Are there any civil engineers or people with actual knowledge of this type of stuff that can talk about possible affects to infrastructure if the morganza spillway is opened?

That gage is so close to the GOM that I doubt you are going to see a large rise, I would guess tide/wind could almost effect that site as much as the river.
Check out these 2 sites they are a little upstream.

ScottieP, you going out in the field with DK?
I don't do much field work with DK. Most of my work is along the coast and DK does alot in the Basin.
Do I know you?

Levees in NOLA are able to hold up to 20 feet... The river is only going to 17 feet in NOLA. IF the forecast stays the same, NOLA will be safe.
