This is a good point.
I need to try and sell high on depth guys to try and get a stud more going forward. Having tons of depth also makes it a pain in the arse to set a lineup.
Something I need to do better in general is working on the trade game.

No matter how great your team is during the regular season, it all comes down to luck in the fantasy playoffs. (Melvin Gordon and Julio go down with injury for me and opponent had Bilal Powell explode due to Forte injury).
Also, once in the playoffs, you should pick up all defenses with a good matchup to prevent opponent from getting them. I had the FAAB budget to get Cincy vs Cleveland and Atlanta vs LA. I picked up Cincy and opponent picked up Atlanta. Atlanta explodes.

why is the 7 seed in the playoffs to begin with? I would avoid that league no doubt, ROOKIE league IMO.

i would take Denver's D over ATL's this week.... call me crazy but I honestly would
"Agree with everything except this. Denver's defense has been phenomenal for me for the most part, started them every week except this week. Got Atlanta's defense against San Fran. I think having that stable roster spot where you don't have to worry about waiver priorities and people snagging the defense you want is a big advantage."

Don't fall in love with any players from your draft or early season performance. Everyone is expendable if the production hasn't been there or isn't any more (I'm looking at you, Marvin Jones).

There's a lot of luck in fantasy. You can put yourself in better positions and with a large enough sample size things will work out for you more often than not, but you still don't have a magical crystal ball and sometimes the ball does just bounce the wrong way.

Do your own research, trust your gut, and make your own decisions.
I certainly have made poor decisions in fantasy, but I like to actually manage my team. There is no point in having others do it for you. Answering questions for others can make you more confident and able to find what matters for your own squads.

Draft a stud TE early.
If you don't get one of the top 3...wait on it until very late because mid tier are interchangeable. I'm in 3 ships, all three have Olson. I failed in leagues trying to stream TE's because the streamers are so inconsistent.

The people who cry luck every year are the people who are perennially at the bottom of their standings. Usually the same people who start someone like Colin Kaepernick one week and he shits the bed and people think it's "bad luck"
Luck isnt a real thing, though. The same people are usually always in the hunt in all 5 of my leagues every single year. That's where it goes back to
“Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity". Those same few people are always jockeying over the same players in the draft, through trade and free agency, going after those guys that make a difference in the playoffs towards the end of the year. The rest will call us lucky when a T-Gabe or Ty Mont pops off or if you had a QB play in the fold weeks before knowing Tom Brady had a playoff matchup @ DEN

As a guy who makes the playoffs 80%+ of the time spanning a decade plus I can say with confidence that fantasy football is 80% skill 20% luck. With the 20% luck being When I haven't made the playoffs.

The difference between the guy who finishes first and last isn't luck, especially if it is every year. The difference between the guy who finishes first and third though.
This year one of the guys that is in the playoffs every year and has won a couple of times just missed the playoffs. He had a rough year. Some could have been right decisions didn't go his way. He finished middle of the pack. To his credit he finished better than if some of the same things had gone against worse players.
In life and in games there are some times when things simply break against you. This is a self apparent fact of life that you don't have to think too deeply about to see. Saying that randomness doesn't exist is just an excuse that people come up with to discount their own fortune.

IMO it all comes down to player evals and team evals. Knowing what players might hit and which to avoid. Most of those fantasy drafts don't deviate too far from those pre draft rankings that we see every year(especially in early rds) If you can find a couple players that the "experts" miss on and also steer clear of the busts you can contend pretty much every year. I can agree with what you said that you shouldn't even look at pre draft rankings but I use them to see how long I can wait to get my guys that are underrated.

The skill comes with being a week early on FA's. Every Tom, Dick, and Harry can go on fantasy PRos and help draft a team.
Props to Gyno. He's got these dudes scooped up already when Joe Schmo goes looking for them on the ww. Personal experience.

Skill is projecting a player to be a beast before the season starts. Any Tom Dick and Harry knew that Spencer ware was gonna be a beast last year after seeing charles and west light it up in that offense. The Skill is knowing not to waste a spot drafting the devin funchess Of the fantasy world. No maybe I will take a davante Adams with that spot instead. That's how leagues are won

FA adds - now we see the rstlne. You have seen how the team looks in games that matter. You have seen the role that the player you are adding will likely have. You have a whole lot more Information to make your decision.
I'm not saying fa adds require no skill but compared to a draft preseason where you have much less info there's no contest.

Get players coming off uncharacteristically bad years. I did it with McCoy, DeMarco Murray. Get players with something to prove.
Next year I'd look at Dez with a pick higher than what his projection would be.

Dez will be a guy that will be lower predraft than he should be IMO. There are always WRs ranked predraft in the low 20s who are top 10 kinda guys and they should be relatively easy to spot.
This year it was Crabtree
Prior year (maybe it was 2) it was Brandon Marshall.
Both were rated 15 or spots lower predraft by the masses than where they ended up.
