Has a non-playoff team ever done this in your league?

I am a playoff team in this league and I put in a waiver request for Saints D/ST but I was apparently beat out by a place team in the league. WTF does this team have to gain? They're not in the running for a pay-out. They guy is a good friend of the dude I'm playing this week, so I smell collusion

I did it by accident today. Had my waiver claims in before I was knocked out on Monday.

Is there a punishment for coming in last place? If not, then yea probably collusion.

Not trying to be a dick, but we discussed this all afternoon yesterday.. it’s a matter of opinion, and there are many reasons for allowing people to make transactions even though they are eliminated - i for one agree with you, however, it is completely subjective.. it all comes down to whatever your league’s rules are

League should have been set so that players who have nothing to play for can't make WW moves.
I know sometimes people who are matched up with "nothing to play for" will make side bets just to make it interesting, in which case I don't see a problem with it at all.
It could very well be collusion, but you'd have to prove it, which would be tough.

We had something similar happen in our league. A team who is not in the playoffs (were in week 2 of the playoffs) put in a waiver claim for Riddick. The 2 seed got him as he was the #1 Waiver priority, but the 1 seed was 8 and would have missed out because the team not in the playoffs was #6. I told the commish he should just lock the teams that were eliminated.

He’s playing for pride. You don’t quit fighting just because you are out of the playoffs

That's collusion
Why is this the default reaction in this board? Like Hangover already said, we talked about this at length yesterday and it's a matter of subjective opinion whether you think eliminated teams should make moves. I am in the camp that they can make moves if they want, as long as it's to benefit their team. If you disagree, fine, but don't scream collusion just because you lost out on a player you wanted. Saints are a top 5 defensive play this week, you should have grabbed them lat week. It makes sense they're a hot commodity on waivers. Nothing here to indicate collusion.

$1 per pickup. It'll eliminate shite like that.
Unless buddy wants to pay fee, I guess.

Our final standings are the draft order for next year so I try to win out even after I’m eliminated.

Unless you can prove collusion, it's not collusion.
People bitch about guys giving up, and then bitch when guys keep making moves. This board is really confusing sometimes.
frick, I'm 1st in my league and had Wentz as my starter. A week ago, I picked up Rodgers before any other playoff team could, just so they couldn't get him. I had no intention of playing him.
Is that bad as well? I'll make moves to keep guys off playoff rosters all day, especially if I have a bench spot open or a guy that just isn't worth keeping.

Playing it out is fine. As long as you let waivers run and THEN add any players imo. That gives the people who are still playing every Chance to get the guys they want.

Eh I disagree. I think adding waivers is always fine. But again, it's a matter of opinion. Reasonable people can disagree. But it's not collusion just because someone does it.

I didn’t say collusion either. If you out you should leave first chance to add players to those who are stilll in the running. Common courtesy.

Assuming this league is in the playoff & is not a keeper league, what is the gain for someone adding players that isn’t in the playoffs?

Nothing to gain other than winning their matchup. And just clear things up, I don't ever make waiver additions when I'm out of the playoffs, because why waste my time? But I don't think there's any reason it should be against the rules. And I definitely don't think it's collusion just because someone does it.

It’s common courtesy.
Put yourself in the other person shoes.
If it was you in the playoffs, would you want other people adding guys that don’t have an impact on the championship? Prob not. So why would you do it when you are out and other guys are in the playoffs?
