Last year I used an active MLB roster spot to hold the excess DL guy.

I like the in-season strategy of being able to trade for injured players which is why I brought it up. It's a solid way for a non-playoff contending team to strengthen their roster for future seasons quicker than going through the young prospects route (assuming injured player recovers completely - but that gamble is part of the strategy). It's also a way for playoff contending teams to strengthen their chances during the season without having to move players from their active roster. If they have a valuable guy sitting on the DL, say a TJ pitcher who wont pitch for them the rest of the season, now they have an option to make a trade without affecting their active roster. Trading for/away injured players is a win-win for both of those types of teams in the above scenarios.
That is clearly different than stockpiling guys from the waiver wire that are on the DL.
If we end up with a rule in place saying you cant add injured players to the DL that you traded for (even if you have the DL space open), then why would teams take on a TJ guy in a trade if he will just take an active roster spot from you for 12 months or however long? Now we are limiting potential trades being done and I am against any rules that hurts trading.

Why would I not like that

because it made his team less competitive.
ETA: Had he had another IR slot, he could have picked someone up off the wire and had an active player playing in an active slot on his roster.

Obviously not the same thing because you are having to give up something to get an injured player.

Probably more competitive with the DL guy in there than waiver wire fodder.

Good question. Others didn't. I don't want to revisit that estrogen festival. I'm fine staying how it is.

I retract my previous stance after clarifying some stuff with redd.
I support unlimited IR spots and banning adds of players currently on the DL. You can still trade for someone on the DL.

I know you are probably joking, but thats probably not true, especially when its comes to the counting stats like IP, QS, and SV+HD

Im 100% against this and this might be one of the dumbest things Ive seen in regards to fantasy.

I thought that you could add them but not put them on DL?

Why don't we just vote and get it over with? It's that simple.
Yay for another slot or two regarding injured guys.
Yay for a 2 round expansion draft next season.

Which was a bullshite move
For a team that was effectively tanking, you could seemingly load your whole MLB active roster with injured and minor league guys with MLB service time
In earls case he was allowed to stash those guys and get the #1 overall pick. For a team that wasn't winning anytime soon that's a sweet deal
There is no reason teams cannot field an active roster given the roster requirements set forth
How about we vote on that

Why? With now unlimited DL spots, what kinds of premium talent do you think is gonna be in the FA pool that is injured.

Under my proposal, you wouldn't be allowed to add anyone that was injured off the wire. In fact, theres even an option on fantrax to prevent anyone from adding an injured player, so it wouldnt even have to be policed. No chance in hell of anyone circumventing the system.

Earl got the #1 pick because he sucks at fantasy baseball.

Lets focus on one discussion at a time.

Great, I'd vote yes.
I don't think it should Apply to traded guys though
And we should still address guys starting minor and injured players on their active roster

I will say that in normal joe schmo espn league the no picking up dl players doesn't make a whole lot of sense because the pool is deep and roster size is not an issue.
Roster size IS an issue in this league and its part of the challenge. The point of the IR is to allow you to keep your guys that you have when they get injured and still be able to manage your roster. Adding IR guys to a team IR slot does nothing but serve as a defacto expanding of the roster.

That point works both ways. That should be a reason why we shouldn't disallow picking up injured players. I would rather expand IR by maybe 1 or 2 and keep the rules as is.
