still, it promotes the same exact strategy that you are talking about.

Say ive hit my minimum of IP, and in a close match, do I risk going for the counting stats and assume my ERA and WHIP will stay below my opponents.

and i really dont have a problem with counting stats, like SvHld or QS, or Runs and SB on the offensive side. At least they measure some sort of quality. IP doesn't any measure of quality at all. 11 of our other stats do.

So you there may be contention in all of the rate stats so you have to decide to throw guys to add QS, SV+Holds, or IP

QS and Sholds are counting stats that actually reward something, though.

So your above theory still applies but those are the only two that involve actual strategy. You actually have to weigh if you want to go for a QS vs blowing up ratio cats.

There is no strategy chasing IP bc the only time people chase it is when they are getting blown out of the ratios. Check the tape and the streaming - these dudes aren't stream to win IP when they are winning the ratios

yea people stream when they are getting blown out in rate stats, but people can still make the decision to play one of there already rostered pitchers in a close match up. Having IP incentives more starting of pitchers.

I just think you should have to put a dollar in the jar everytime you bring up the stat.

I only mentioned it bc you have actual good teams streaming. I can see the bad teams doing it. When streaming can impact a game it just kinda muddles who the actual best teams are, when you arent relying on roster construction

just hate to see it going into the playoffs. ive come to terms with the stat and know it will never be change

CQQ laid an egg today. Looking like RDR gonna get the last slot. MWG pretty much has #1 on lock. Congrats to him. Big accomplishment in a league this size with this many active competitors.

I beat the shite out of Rondo, and it doesn't even matter a tiny bit.

ETA: Although if Pence has a big game tonight, it could be the determining factor for the 8th seed.

Good luck Gyno. Still super close. Big game from Pence pretty much knocks me out.

I just wanted to say that I like the IP category. It is a nice 6th category for pitching and adds another level of strategy. I don't think it is that uncommon for advanced 6x6 leagues to use it either. Tristan Cockroft prefers it. This is from his article:

quote:

The addition of innings pitched is a cap-tip to one of the most increasingly appreciated skills of a pitcher during the fantasy baseball era: generating outs. Remember, innings pitched is a direct calculation of outs recorded by a pitcher, innings pitched times three equaling his number of outs recorded. A pitcher has but two goals when he's on the mound: record outs and prevent runs.

Why pitchers haven't received more credit historically for their innings pitched in fantasy baseball is puzzling, but as the real game evolves, pitching staffs become more specialized and efficiency of outs recorded further drives managerial strategy, individual pitchers' innings totals will greater reflect their contributions. A quarter-century ago, in 1988, 37 pitchers totaled 215 innings or more, and 20 of them had WHIPs higher than 1.20. Last season, 12 pitchers worked at least 215 innings, and only Clayton Richard (1.23) had a WHIP higher than 1.20.

That exact article is what convinced me that IP was the way to go. And I don't care for Cockcroft.

In a vacuum (for this league), sure

In a roto league, which is he surely referencing, sure

The top 5 teams in IP have an ERA of 4+. None of their WHIPs finish in the top 8. It plays in this league because you can work around it, obviously

If you couldnt stream SP, then it would be a great stat. You would be forced to use what you built, and you have to toe the line to balance how many SP vs RP you roster to win whatever cats you're focusing on. Do you go top heavy in one, do you try and balance, etc. There would be an actually strategy to it. That is what you want.

Being able to stream the cat makes it an empty stat.

Well it's not rocket science that those that use more SPs are going to have higher ERAs.
