I mean shite, yeah we're a small market, but so is Milwaukee, Portland, Memphis, etc. but you never see the media narrative be "why would they want to play there?" for those places. But damn, anytime New Orleans is mentioned, it's like round-the-clock coverage.
First Gordon, then AD, now Zion.
I don't get it.
In this age of where the sponsors will find you no matter where you play, you'd think New Orleans would actually be a fun city for these guys compared to the other smaller markets.

Everything I said is true.

They'll call you a melting pussy etc etc etc
But seriously, the shameful behavior from the national media last night and today is honestly souring my mood.
Its really shitty.

F**K the media!
F**K Lebron!
F**K AD!
F**K em all!

It’s hot take central right now. They need to come up with the most ridiculous takes to catch your attention. Because if NY or LA got the 1st pick than it was rigged.

I get that, but it's always at its loudest when it's about New Orleans.

Funny story, Bill Simmons, who is normally one of the most obnoxious anti-New Orleans hot take artists, was fawning over the potential of this trio yesterday.
Said AD would be a moron to leave. Jrue is the most underrated guard today, Zion makes them instant Conference finalist contenders from day one.
You'd of thought the Pelicans moved to Boston.

I agree with you. But if Zion was at Memphis they would do the same shite.

But the hype the put around this kid is stupid.

FWIW, the NBA is the most popular sport in the Philippines, yet while I was over there last year nobody recognized my Pels gear as being NBA-related. Most had no idea the Pelicans are an NBA team.
This in a country where seemingly one in every four men walks around in a Lebron, Steph or Kyrie jersey.
Not really making a point, just offering a little foreign perspective.

Their two main points are 1) Franchise is a shite show 2) franchise doesn’t win
ARE THE KNICKS AND LAKERS NOT BIGGER shite SHOWS??
WE SWEPT PORLAND 1 YEAR AGO AND THEY ARE GOING TO LOSE TO THE SAME TEAM WE LOST TO AFTER BEATING THEM.
The only solid point they could make would be our medical staff, but Griffin took care of that.

I think it's a mix of us having to do some further educating that we're not the same organization as in years past and large market bitterness.
The league has already seen the steps ownership has taken to be considered a legitimately run franchise. We've gotten so much praise over the past month and now we get the #1 pick. We're now in a world where teams wish they were in the same boat as us and that makes the large markets seethe.

New Orleans is bigger than Memphis.
Ok we are the second smallest media market in the NBA, but Memphis doesn't have any other pro teams that they play 2nd fiddle too. In the minds, of the "experts & those in the know & talking heads" in the media the pels are 2nd fiddle in the second smallest media market. It is a bullshite mentality, but it is the way they view us.

It is possible.

If the Pelicans decide not to honor star Anthony Davis' trade request, their chances of convincing him to stay long term in New Orleans just got much better. A frontcourt of Davis and Zion -- who have the top two projections by my consensus model for any NCAA prospects in my database, which goes back to 2003 -- would be a great building block for a more competitive team than the Pelicans have been able to put around Davis.
New Orleans could now become an interesting player in free agency this summer. If starting power forward Julius Randle declines his $9.1 million player option and the Pelicans waive Solomon Hill and stretch his $12.8 million 2019-20 salary over the next three years, they would create approximately $24 million in cap space to shop for a starting point guard to go with the quality trio of Davis, Williamson and wing Jrue Holiday.
If AD is wanting out of NOLA because he wants out of a small market or he is unhappy with the organization then trade his arse, but if he is really just wanting a trade to be on a contender then he has just as good of a shot in NOLA.

Boston has been wanting to pair AD with Kyrie Irving. However, Kyrie has a player option this offseason. If he exercises that option then signs with the Pelicans we become Boston but better. AD, Zion, Jrue, and Kyrie = FAP

If NBA games were played in the summer, and players had to live in the sauna that is summer in south Louisiana, then I would understand the media comments.
But the season is over the winter, and places such as Detroit, Toronto, Milwaukee, and Cleveland are simply miserable places to be in the winter.
I understand endorsement money is better in bigger markets, and I understand our past history as a poorly-run franchise, but that last item is history now and anyone with a brain knows it.

If I was a young player and New Orleans picked me, I would love it. There are only 3-4 teams that have a shot usually at winning it all anyway and so you know you're not going to one of those. Why not be happy about going to some place fun and entertaining with good food and fast women while getting paid big bucks and if the team doesn't contend for anything, you can later get traded to a contender like all these studs seem to do these days.
