They ran out of good shite to say so they invented it

I think it’s a clear win for MAGA. Most rational people saw last night as a great thing, and the left look like fools this AM with their coordinated spin.

Obama legitimized Cuba I guess

"normalizing" is the other word worth noting
like when Spicer appeared at the Oscars (or whatever award show it was) and hollywood went bonkers on social media about how this "normalizes" him by giving him this platform.

quote:Are you twelve years old? The term has been in use in the political context for decades ... if not longer. I can recall its use vis-a-vis the Norks in the 1990s, and perhaps earler.
Where did this “legitimizng” nonsense come from?

It's a nothing burger. Just another term butchered by the left to attack their enemies.

Because it’s exactly what the left has done to everyone with gays and transgenders.

It's an SJW weapon used for silencing opposition. SJWs believe that the viewpoints they disagree with should not be allowed to be spoken aloud so they vilify the speakers as sub-human.
They are now trying to take this concept into politics.

quote:It didn't just get thrown into politics all of a sudden. There are videos of Hannity, Bolton, etc. saying the same thing when Obama said he was willing to talk to NK.
Seriously, how did this term get thrown into politics all of the sudden?
And I'm sure it goes back much further from both sides. It seems like a stupid talking point for the most part, but it's not new and not exclusive to the left.

It's almost like the Democrats would be happier bombing North Korea than meeting with them. 60 years of isolation hasn't worked.

Talking to them is legitimizing enemies/dictators.
Giving them money, that's just smart.

There it is, that’s the other word I was looking for! I think my Fallon interview example falls into this, and you are right about Spicer.
The two go hand in hand, same criticism at heart. I edited my OP to include it

It isn't a new concept. The weaponization of the term against political opposition is the concept that is new. The use of the term with regard to DPRK's leader is foolishness. He is the leader of a nation-state. He already has referential power. His nation state has nuclear weapons. The idea that he isn't "legitimized" is stupid.

The DNC (Ganet) talking points that go out at 4:00am daily.

It's just another attempt to undermine everything Trump does. Trump says right, they want left. He says left, they want right.
And more to the point of the Summit, does it really matter whether Kim is viewed as legitimate or illegitimate? If he gets an ICBM that can reach the US mainland, will it not work because he's "illegitimate?"
I swear, for a demographic that has such a stronghold on academia in America, liberals really are nothing but a bunch of dumb asses.

Another of the left's words/phrases that they create and use over and over until it's a thing
