Irish Setter
Wore these in MT, last year.
Only problem I had was that I was starting to get a blister around my ankles when I had them laced up all the way. I undid the top few lace holders and I was fine the next 5 days.

Danner High Ground
If these aren't what you're looking for, I would certainly recommend the brand. They have an entire hunting boot line so that a look around.

This. And Merrell have some cheaper options that are pretty legit. Believe it or not, so does Columbia now.

Can I third Salomon as well. The salomon quest 4d gtx is a hell of a boot!

Lots of good boots out there. Salomon is 1 but it all comes down to fit.
I'm thinking 12+ miles a day on hard and sometimes quite rocky terrain. It better fit well or after a couple days your hunt won't be much fun.

Went with the Solomans. Had to special order a wide size. They fit pretty snug with wool socks on.

How much walking are you going to be doing , are you packing out or do you have a guide. You have really waited too late to break in the heavy boots like schnees or Kenetrek..I'd get something lighter weight and more forgiving like danner pronghorn , everyone makes a version ,

You might want to bring 2 pairs of boot. I usually bring a really warm pair with 600-800 grams of Thinsulate and a lighter pair for warmer days. Also, if you get one wet or sweat a lot in it, you can allow them to dry out while you wear the other pair.

the most important thing is comfort. you want them above the ankle, and if you are carrying a heavy pack the higher the better for more support.

Please tell me the best to wear when you wear a 15/16

Danner Grouse, unless you need insulation

I agree with the Danner boots for Elk hunting, just can't go wrong. Get some decent socks that can wick well, and bring some duct tape, and place directly on skin at any spot that starts to rub, as soon as you start to feel it, don't let it blister. Good boots and it won't be a problem, but you never know the slope/grade that will test the pressure points.

Ended up with danner pronghorns from Bowies they had them on sale for 99 bucks. Couldn't beat the pricing.

Just got my danner high grounds yesterday. I have to say, they feel like sneakers their so comfortable and light

I've hunted a good bit out West in trail sneakers. I've never rolled an ankle, so don't mind giving up support for lighter weight.
