Going to be going to Colorado elk hunting in a few weeks and would like to get the proper footwear for the terrain. Down here for hunting I usually wear rubber boots or regular ole dr Martin work boots and they suit me fine. However I don't want to get 1500 miles away and be miserable for 5-8 days of hunting in the Colorado terrain. What do you guys wear out west?

Take a look at Schnee’s performance boots from Bozeman, MT. They are high quality and made for and used by many people who hunt similar terrain to what you will experience. They have insulated and uninsulated boots.

What conditions do you anticipate? Do you need insulated? Are you crossing water?

Look at Lowa's. I have never worn their hunting versions but I own a hiking boot and a mountaineering boot and they have a repeat customer for life. I've worn my hikers hunting in eastern Oregon and I can't imagine you hunting anything worse than that and they held up just fine.

One good thing about them is they don't require a long break in period.

Hope I helped out.

I’ve had two pairs of Danner work boots that required zero break in. I’d buy a pair of Pronghorn 8” lace ups. Gore Tex and I like the stability on my ankles you get with lace ups. TIFWIW.

Nice subtle brag on the elk trip, too.

Honestly I have zero expectations of this trip. This will be my first time. We are going up in the south east corner between Trinidad and Pueblo.

I tried the danners at Bowie but they didn't have my size. Might have to find them elsewhere.

It's hard to go wrong with these:

Timberland Chocorua

I've used them for years for general purpose hiking boots. Very comfortable, waterproof, $99 at Amazon. I just ordered my second pair, the first have lasted me 4-5 years of frequent use that is often wet and muddy. Amazon sells a ton of them for a reason, they are highly rated and fairly inexpensive.

Go to moosejaw.com

Danner, in my opinion. Military grade with consumer in mind. Get your wallet out.

I ordered my last pair off amazon. No place had them in stock close enough to try on. I really could’ve gone a half size up than what I ended up with.

I have some Merrell ones I use for the exact same thing. I hunt the same area at the same time of year. Probably do 15 miles a day in them. Love' em

You headed up this year? This will
Be my first hunt. Really hoping to get a kill. My father in law killed a nice mule 2 years ago and his brother killed a nice 5x6 three years ago with the same outfitter.
