The data shows a 0% death rate for 20 year olds. I can't comprehend why a single thing changed.
this guy gets it.

The overreaction has been astounding. Everyone has gone from "don't overwhelm the hospitals" to a race to the top on restrictions as part of the changed narrative, "we have to do everything we can to protect large segments of the population (who, btw, have shown to have a death rate of basically zero)."

We've lost our minds.

I suspect he means the people who will not do the simple things that would bring the virus under some reasonable level of spread. The biggest strength and weakness of this state are the people who live here.

define reasonable. We're at about 2/3 the level of hospitalization capacity we were at the peak in May. Not overwhelming the healthcare system right now. Not even close. Goalposts keep moving and the gullible electorate just eat it up.

It is people like you who spread massive misinformation and need to really do some research. Under 45 years old the deaths nationwide have not even reached 4k in a total pool of 150k...under 24 y/o the number is essentially zero and those young who did die were comorbid. ... Please stop spreading lies. Look at the table in the attached study. If you want some scary death rates for people under 20, especially children, take a look at plain old flu statistics. Do you ever worry about the players catching the flu? Nope.. Because the media hasn't trained you to.

I guess the PAC 12 players haven’t seen the stats either
As I said, there are risks with this season that have not existed before, not just to players but coaches and support staff. The conference only schedule is an attempt to have a uniform set of protocols to mitigate the virus. I hope it succeeds

Hundreds of Players in PAC-12 Threatening to Sit Out 2020 Season

Glen West

An interesting development on Sunday out of the Pac 12 as hundreds of players are threatening to sit out the season if the conference doesn’t meet certain health protocol demands.

“We’re not your entertainment, we’re human beings... We don’t know the long term risks. We have no idea how it’s going to affect our body regardless if we show symptoms or not. I refuse to put my health at risk for somebody else’s benefit.”

While this doesn’t directly point to anything regarding the SEC, it does allude to the fact that college athletes are starting to take more control. This weekend out of the SEC, however, a conversation between players and the conference revealed in a Washington Post article, sparked debate as to what the expectations are for these athletes in 2020

When you cut out the East Tennessees and other rent-a-wins it's actually a better and more competitive schedule, unless you're in the big ten or ACC. Facing a rent-a-win will be a schedule upgrade for Clemson.

The SEC has already said that Dec. 12 will be an open date for all teams.

That will never happen as long as the traditional opponent is in effect. AL wants LSU to play FL every year and AU play GA every year. That not only makes LSU, GA, AU and FL SOS tougher every year than AL, but it makes longer periods between times AL has to play GA and FL. FL and LSU will lobby against the 9 game until the traditional opponent is removed and it will not pass.

I totally get that, and it’s a legitimate concern. I would—and will—respect anybody’s decision to sit out due to the uncertainty.

This is where I have an issue, and it is somewhat reflective of (though watered down) OBJ’s recent statements. Let’s not pretend that the players aren’t getting anything out of the deal, that they’re all just gladiators forced to go out and sacrifice themselves for us evil Emperors and our callous entertainment. It’s a very mutually beneficial relationship. They get free college education and all the I credible perks that come with being a scholarship P5 football player along with a weekly, nationally televised audition for the NFL and the even more incredible spoils that come with that gig. That’s the deal they signed up for.

Again, I know this year is different for them, and totally respect their decision to sit out if they so choose. But let’s not whine after the fact about being exploited by the very people whose fanatical interest and resulting willingness to part with their money that provides all the perks you’ve been and hope to continue benefiting from.

look, i want football. And I think the virus has been heavily politicized.

But I deal in reality.

There’s zero chance this idea will work. The only reason they’re trying to keep the season alive is TV money. This will go down like baseball. Start the season, kids test positive, and then they shut it down.

I’m investing zero emotion in this season because it just won’t happen.

Not saying it’s right, but it’s just reality.

theres a greater risk of the kids dying in a car crash driving to a local pizza joint than from corona.

But I deal with reality, and our politicians and administrators are cowards and will shut it all down.

why is it the SEC has not come up with a schedule?

the majority of D1 conferences have their schedules in place.

SEC committee sucks.

Lol it’s going to be the end of the regular season for 12 of the teams. Why would you put your open date after the season is over? Put it in the middle of the schedule.

In case they need to reschedule games. Each team will have an additional open date besides the 12th.
