OK guys. I recently had my backyard scraped and leveled. No grass now, just dirt. Other than Sod, I have time, what is the best way to keep out any trash grass and allow only health grass to grow?

right now? Just get your grass up and healthy. Worry about weeds next year.

OK. Then is there anything that should be done to get it up and healthy other than wish for rain?

If you care that much about your lawn then you need to call it soil and not dirt btw. Do you have a wife or do you call her your old lady?

did you already lay sod or seed, or are you planning on doing that soon?

What’s around the front, right, back, and left sides of your lawn? If it’s a fence or your neighbors lawn you should be ok. If it’s an open field you’re gonna have to round up the edges.

If you brought in dirt you can wait 2 weeks to see if any torpedo grass pops up.

No dirt brought in. Just scraped and cleared out the old dirt and now have nice SOIL to deal with. Surrounding me is a mix of St. Austine, Clover, and weeds.

Lay the sod. You'll be fine. If you didn't have anything crazy beforehand you won't have anything crazy now.

That is what I hear, 24D. Isn’t purchase of this restricted to farmers and such?

No. It’s a common ingredient in many lawn weed control products. But, you should avoid spraying it when temperatures are 85F+.

ETA: Listen to whatever ronk tells you. He knows his stuff.

Yeah, don’t do 2-4D. That’s not for grassy weeds which is your concern. If you are going to sod then go for it. If you’re going to seed then make it bermuda but I can help with picking the variety.

I'd carve out a bed for dandelion and bamboo. You can put the dendelion leaves in your smoothies and make floors, furniture, sheets, etc... with bamboo.

Well to sod my entire area would be close to 6k of which is a bit steep. my thought is to run a line of Bermuda down the center and in a few strategic places. Hoping that it will take off. Your thoughts?

Full sun? Any certain look you like dark green, blue green, aggressive spreader, low maintenance, budget for seed? And don’t say dark green, aggressive spreader, low maintenance because that doesn’t exist.

You can try to seed, but it’s high maintenance until it comes in. Good thing is it’s easy work to lay compared to $6000 of sod.
