Keeping cats out of flower beds.

I have a neighbor a few houses down that has a shite ton of wild cats that are running around. I don't really see them just heard but as of late. They are making a real mess in one of my flower beds. The smell is horrendous. I know of the green weenie to feed them but I'm trying to find a less lethal option. I'll go talk to him next and ask that he do something but I'm hoping to find something that will repel them to save the headache. Any suggestions??

I’ve heard you can put citrus peels out and it will deter them. Not sure if it actually works though.

It works. But it doesn’t last long.
ETA: I bought an Orbit Yard Enforcer to keep squirrels out of my garden. Sucker works great. It would work well for cats, too.

What is a yard enforcer? I have the rubber mulch also so it's really a pain

Moth balls. Side effects is that your front yard will smell like grandmas’s house.

Yard Enforcer
I know it isn’t cheap. But, I wasted a lot of money on other methods to try to keep the squirrels out of my garden. I should’ve gone with this from the start. This has by far been the most effective.
ETA: Here it is in action.

pepper spray works, i dont know much else to keep them out
you can mix your own concoction, i think youtube has a video showing how
the pepper makes them sneeze like crazy so they dont want to stay around it

I preface this by saying my situation is the same because my neighbor has a bunch of cats but different than yours because she is directly next to me and it may be a bigger problem than yours.
That said, I have extensive history with this very problem up to the point of getting in a long drawn out argument with my neighbor and parish animal shelter officials. I have tried everything crazy cat hoarders suggest including red pepper flakes, moth balls, citrus, mint, fence spikes, high frequency motion activated sensor, a dog, and yes, a motion activated sprinkler. Most of them are high ineffective. The sprinkler does help some but they cats will find a way to circumvent it or the is too sensitive to catch them and the batteries consistently die.
the ONLY THING that will solve your problem is trapping and removing them. You can chose to tell your neighbor or not but in the end, this is all that will truly correct your situation. Also, depending where you live, DO NOT bring them to the animal shelter as they will just simply ensure they are fixed and send them back to your neighborhood because there are "cat colonies" that people like your neighbor and mine run.
Good luck

I don’t have this problem but I know a guy that does,I was at his house one morning as he was picking up piles of cat crap in his front yard,it was unbelievable how many big nasty piles there were.He said he did it every morning,I told him about the Tylenol in cat food solution,he came back with the soy boy answer that he would hate to do that, the crazy cat guy next door was a nice guy, blah, blah, blah.Well so would I actually but no way I could tolerate that.
Trapping would be a solution but that would be a huge hassle.
I would go the poison solution but I wouldn’t talk to the owner or tell anybody about it.Crazy cat people are irrational,he won’t do anything about it and when cats start coming up dead cops are likely to come knocking on your door.
Sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Old man I used to fish with would trap squirrels in his yard to eat. sometimes he'd trap larger critters, cat sized, possums, coons etc. He'd simply get the trap with said critter in it and walk over to the rain barrel and drop the trap in. after a couple minutes he'd pull out the trap, remove the critter and start skinning an undamaged pelt and meat. I know he trapped a few nuisance cats, but I doubt he ate them.
* just sharing a story, not suggesting drowning nuisance, disease spreading feral cats is an ethical solution- but it would be effective, eh?

I'm thinking about going have a conversation however I don't think it will go far. I'm going to try the motion sprinkler as it's a small flower bed, more of a planter if you would, and see how that works. If that doesn't work I'll have a conversation and if that yields not results I'll start trapping and taking them for a long ride. I caught one in my boat this AM. I'm afraid if I talk to him with hopes me may remove them, and then he dosent, they start showing up dead, I'm suspect number one. It's truly ridiculous though and the smell is horrendous.

The logical, good neighbor in you suggests chatting with the person to try and find an amicable solution. Unfortunately, if this person maintains several feral cats, how in the world could he control where they go, even if he has good intentions. He knows the cats are a nuisance to neighbors.
