My dad is in the Hospital in Lafayette and not doing well. Certainly prayers are appreciated but I was more than surprised when he was taken off a vent to test his breathing when he eventually asked two questions... One, Where is Mom? Meaning his wife, my mother. And Two, has LSU Played yet? We laughed and cried at the same time. As disoriented as he is, he wants to see it. He does not watch every game, he follows when he can, but we spent a lot of time over the last few months talking about Joe, the Tigers, (also the great season the Cajuns were having), and how cool it is a Old Cajun guy kinda like him was leading the Tigers. Anyway, I don't post much but man it got all of us when you realize at times like that, even in the ICU, it means to all of us and I wanted to share! Geaux Tigers!

Yellin, all the best for you , your dad and your family. I lost my dad at 14, but we had shared many a Tiger moment, and I got my love of the tigers and cub from him. He’s been gone 53 years and I still think if him and have him with me for every game.
Your story reminds me of a tale about Bear Bryant, when he said “ They say football in the south is a matter of life and death, but it’s not.....it’s a lot more important than that!”

God bless your father.

He certainly has his priorities in order. If I was on my last legs, I’d beg the doctors to keep me alive until Tuesday.

No sarcasm. I’d be pissed if I lived all those years only to miss the biggest game in the history of LSU football.

I was in the ER for the Auburn game. Eventually, after much prodding from me, the hospital staff accommodated me, first by giving me my phone back (ESPN app), then by moving me to a room where I could watch the game on TV.

The staff at South Central MC in Laurel do a terrific job of keeping their patients happy.

My mentor, a huge UNC fan, passed away late April 1, 2017 shortly after UNC beat Oregon. UNC went on to beat Gonzaga. It was bittersweet, but I bet she had the best damn view of the game. Hope your pops gets his wish!

Thanks for all the well wishes... My Dad did recount to me... again for the umpteenth time... his favorite LSU Story, not about football, but Pete Maravich… Pete came to my Dad's sister house in BR to pick up my cousin for a date in what my Dad says was 1968. My Aunt thought she smelled alcohol on his breath and ordered him off the porch and that he not come back. She knew he was "some ballplayer" but that's it. Suffice to say, my cousin was supremely pissed. They never went out again.....

Thanks Pen, amid all the Negatigers, crazy analysis, predictions, etc. the thing we have in common is how much this all means to all of us. Even an old 79 year old coon arse like my Dad who didn't even go to LSU but has so many common connections. He and I had talked weeks ago about how the team and staff not only "represents" but represents in a way that affects even more people just by the common threads. My Dad for instance, he loves the team, but being an old French speaking Cajun, he connects even more with Coach O. That's a powerful touch point for him.

I hope you father get to see it too. My heart goes out to you and your family during this tough time. But its amazing how sports can touch a family and bring them even closer together.

Sports usually don't matter, until they do.

In 2010, my wife's uncle was in a really bad car accident. He was in bad shape and placed in an induced coma. They eased him out of the coma after a few days and we were sitting in the room when he awakened a bit.

My wife's aunt explained what happened to him and he had little reaction. She then told him that LSU had just beaten Bama and his eyes opened really wide and he mouthed the word "wow!". Then he blew a small kiss to my wife's aunt and drifted back off.

He sadly passed a bit later from his injuries -- but it always brought me some comfort knowing how despite his injuries, he was happy that the Tigers had won.

My grandfather died about a week before our last title in 2007 after a lengthy hospital stay. I always wished he could have seen the Tigers win that game before but I know he saw it from above. Hope your dad gets to see one more title win.

Prayers to him and your family, as well.
