talent definition
Posted by YellinTiger50 on 10/13/21 at 8:00 am
We all say, "with the talent we have we should"... add your comment, bring in coaches, win more games.. etc.
My father, especially when interviewing potential employees, defined talent this way- "Talent equals values plus attitude plus competency, and if you have half of any of those components you don't have the skill set I want" Makes me wonder how much "talent" we really have when I think of it that way and in which of those three do we lack the most?

The Opt out discussion

Pretend you are the parent of said athlete in the position of opting out? . What is the discussion you have privately with your kid?

Young man, I hope to goodness you don't read this! That would mean you read this board, God help you. If you read it, you would know your 40 time, expectations, that you in fact do have Elite arm talent. Whatever the Hell that means. As a father of a College athlete, I will say this, as I tell my own boys, Be yourself and have fun! You will have some off days, people will pretend to know you, girls will approach you. I reiterate, be yourself, because what you have been so far is a model Tiger, obviously great teammate, very good player so far, and what we want out of all our Tiger players we love. Expectations that count are what have of yourself, All can't wait to see you walk out on that field next year when the clock reads Q1, 15:00.

Thanks Pen, amid all the Negatigers, crazy analysis, predictions, etc. the thing we have in common is how much this all means to all of us. Even an old 79 year old coon arse like my Dad who didn't even go to LSU but has so many common connections. He and I had talked weeks ago about how the team and staff not only "represents" but represents in a way that affects even more people just by the common threads. My Dad for instance, he loves the team, but being an old French speaking Cajun, he connects even more with Coach O. That's a powerful touch point for him.

Thanks for all the well wishes... My Dad did recount to me... again for the umpteenth time... his favorite LSU Story, not about football, but Pete Maravich… Pete came to my Dad's sister house in BR to pick up my cousin for a date in what my Dad says was 1968. My Aunt thought she smelled alcohol on his breath and ordered him off the porch and that he not come back. She knew he was "some ballplayer" but that's it. Suffice to say, my cousin was supremely pissed. They never went out again.....

How much it means

My dad is in the Hospital in Lafayette and not doing well. Certainly prayers are appreciated but I was more than surprised when he was taken off a vent to test his breathing when he eventually asked two questions... One, Where is Mom? Meaning his wife, my mother. And Two, has LSU Played yet? We laughed and cried at the same time. As disoriented as he is, he wants to see it. He does not watch every game, he follows when he can, but we spent a lot of time over the last few months talking about Joe, the Tigers, (also the great season the Cajuns were having), and how cool it is a Old Cajun guy kinda like him was leading the Tigers. Anyway, I don't post much but man it got all of us when you realize at times like that, even in the ICU, it means to all of us and I wanted to share! Geaux Tigers!
recruiting question/ thought
Posted by YellinTiger50 on 12/12/19 at 10:16 am
Soon enough an 18 year old kid (and his family) will have to deal with this..... "you will be able to monetize a name, image and likeness". Of course maintaining a recruiting balance will be one of the issues. My son is a very good JUCO athlete playing at an All American level in a non revenue sport. You can already hear some of the bigger schools recruiting him for his last two years vaguely selling the idea that "come to our school, not only do we have the facilities but your face will be out there" its subtle, but there. Now I'm very blessed that sport provides a full ride scholarship for my son but I wonder if any of you have been recruited or are going through the process now with your kids where this comes up or discussed? Its strange but it leads me to this...……. when and if this goes into full effect the Tigers will continue to be at even bigger recruiting advantage because of their stature and National prominence... Geaux Tigers!

They were tiresome to say the least, one dude had on what looked to be a worn out "Jim Tressel Vest". Collectors item for them I'm sure......
In a bar in OHIO
Posted by YellinTiger50 on 12/9/19 at 3:00 pm
So I'm in a small bar and grill type joint in the Canton area of Ohio (little town called Bolivar) where my company has an office week before Thanksgiving. These people there are football fanatics just like us. Here I am a Lafayette guy and I threw out some questions about SEC and LSU in particular. I got the expected responses, Fields better than Burrow, Dobbins better than Helaire, their corners would easily shut down our receivers. I just chuckled at em all and stayed on my burger. The thing they harp upon though is pass rush, of course, Chase Young. They act as though all great pass rushers like the Bosa boys, who they all have man crushes on by the way, only come from their school. I mentioned Chaisson. Their comment was, "no way he can track down Fields and Dobbins." Suffice to say, it was an interesting conversation to really know they take the Tigers lightly and by the way, they think Coach O is an idiot.... Gonna be awesome to roll em in the Dome, if they they make it that far!!! GO TIGERS!!
