Good article on mlb.com about why Bregman should be the MVP over Trout. He won't, but they make a compelling case.

Hi, buddy. I don’t think I know you. Odd time to show up.

I usually lurk in these threads, but seeing as I’m the only A’s fan on probably all of TD, I typically refrain from posting

I get that Trout is the best player on the planet blah blah blah....but the Angels can suck just as much without him and they can with him.

On the other hand, I could also argue that the Astros would still be kicking arse without Bregman...but I think there would be a drop off in win total.

If the words are "player of the year", then let Trout have it.

If the words are "most valuable player", then let someone other than Trout have it.

By that criteria Verlander is the MVP. We don't make the playoffs without him. Period.

In all honesty I don’t get why he hasn’t gotten mvp talk. Hell they were pumping up sale last year. Not saying he should win it (pitchers have their own award) but he should be 2nd or 3rd.

Jv is nearing the mlb era lead playing in the American League. He leads the league in wins and innings pitched and his whip+batting average against blow away the field.

Trout meanwhile gets to be the Ken Giles of center fielders

He has a very strong argument and should be top 5... but the Astros probably still make the playoffs without him.

And therein lies the rub....without Verlander, Astros probably still make the playoffs but they would have almost ZERO chance to win the World Series.

I've always said Most Valuable Player and Player of the Year are two different things.

I think to really put JV's season in perspective, you have to consider these numbers he has put up also include the league lead in HRs.

I can't fathom that
