Kirk Lazarus underwent a controversial pigmentation procedure for “Tropic Thunder.”

I like Gary Oldman but he’s getting a lot of credit for hair and makeup.

Christian Bale is doing permanent damage to his body to look like that for his parts.

Does anyone ask him to do this, or is it just a personal quest to suffer for his trade?

What Oldman does is more of what I consider part of "acting." What Bale does is a little outside the arts, IMO.

I dont Think anyone asks him to do it.

Obviously you gotta be yokes for Batman.

But idknif anyone expected him to almost die for the Machinist or get fat to play Cheney

I’m sure for some roles it’s asked of, like getting jacked for Batman or losing some weight to play the crack head in the Fighter

But I remember reading something where the director for the Machinist was legit worried about him losing all that weight. I think he said that’s how Bale himself thought the character should be

Oldman is a great call. One of the first that came to my mind was Robert De Niro when he played Jake Lamotta in "Raging Bull" where he gained about 50 lbs. to play him after he retired from the ring.

Also a good call on Charlize Theron playing Aileen Wuornos the serial killer from Florida in the movie "Monster".

Yeah, what he and Theron, Dennis Quaid and others have done is considered pseudo-acting. Just because they put more effort into changing their appearance doesn't make their performance better.

I'm kind of hoping he'll get cast as an amputee just to see how committed he really is.

He didn’t cut his fingers off for The Prestige.... commitment now questioned
