Not sure if already posted so SIAP...

Smoky Mountain makes a decent tobacco free dip. Cold turkey is 100% best but keep a can of smoky around for when you just really need to feel that burn in your lip. My best friend of 30 years and I both managed to kick the habit this way.

Again, I repeat, don't make a habit of it, but it's a nice mental crutch when you really just need to feel like you have a pinch in.

Couldn’t quit smoking. Tried several times. I was able to quit dipping, though, so after a couple of attempts, I switched to that and quit within a few months. If you are trying to quit dip, I would probably recommend the nicotine gum coupled with one of those non-tobacco “dips” some of my friends have told me about. I quit dipping about 8-9 years ago, so I don’t know too much about it, but best of luck to you. Hope you are able to whip it.

“You have a 3 cm inoperable squamous cell carcinoma at the base of your tongue.
You’ll need radiation and chemo therapy.”
That’s when I quit.
Been cancer free for almost 4 years now.

The last dip I took was December 30,2018 while hunting. Cold turkey quit since then. My dad had kidney cancer and seeing what it did to him made me wonder why the frick I was putting something in my mouth that could put me through something similar. I had quit before but always "relapsed" when fishing/hunting/drinking with someone who had a can. I haven't even had an urge since my last dip in December.

heres what worked for me.... and worked well. i love sharing this story, because maybe, just maybe i can help somebody who may be having a hard time.

I set a date. a hard and firm date. so in my case, lets say during late summer early fall i said after hunting season, thats it. february 1st I'm done with it. I would tell everyone the date and that i would be quitting that day. friends, family, coworkers, anybody that would listen. over and over. my theory was,(and it worked quite well) i had to quit, because i didn't want to be a liar. i didn't want to go back on my word. i didn't want my friends and family to think i was a failure, or that i didn't do what i said i was going to do. for me, that was enough. all we have is our word, and by god i wasn't going to go back on my word, something that i told them i was GOING to do over and over. finished the last can i had and never looked back.

at first, i messed with the gum, and sunflower seeds, but it was more so just to give me something to do when i felt the urge. didn't last too terribly long and i was done with that also.

heres the other thing... the money. for me, i was at least a can, can and a half a day. so lets say 7 dollar average.
7x7=49x4=196x12=2352 dollars...wasted. on shite that is bad for me. 2400 bucks a year is a pretty nice chunk and i just couldn't stand throwing it away like that.

I quit 6-7 times before actually quitting. The two things that helped me:

Finding a legit reason to quit. I quit for my sister's twins who were fighting for their life in the NICU. I said if they could fight, then my battle was easy.

Everytime you get an urge, tell yourself to wait 3 minutes. Generally the urge subsides, and the next craving is further out. As you stay away from it, the cravings will space out more.

Hardest part is sticking with it. I can't say that I havent had a drunken cig or two. The last time i had one was about 3 years ago, and it tasted so bad I swore never again.

I had a bad habit of biting my fingernails when I’m nervous so I made a bet with a lifelong smoker at work. $1000, whoever breaks has to pay up.

Neither of us have broken
