I debated putting this here or in the poly forum. Since I don't ever really go to the Poly forum, it's here.
I don't really have any comment beyond that since most of the population here lives in a "bowl" created by a couple of mountain ranges, our wintertime particulate air quality can get pretty bad. Since most of that type of pollution comes from vehicles, it's a real issue here (and we're (Utah residents that drive) all guilty).

I've been telling everyone for years that there will come a day when your modified diesel truck will become illegal to operate overnight and the crackdown will begin. Cant believe it hasnt happened yet.

The trend is against diesels, especially in the US. That is why Ford is coming out with their 7.3. It doesn't replace the 6.2 but adds to the choices. They claim it will have lots of power and torque for towing without the complexity and costs. Maybe not as much as the diesel but enough for a lot of applications.

And your point is.....?
Have you ever seen a rice rocket with an obnoxiously huge rear wing that does nothing? What about a Camry with fake fender air vents?
I didn't care that my truck did it for a second, but any more than that, and it says to me that the truck is set up improperly

The trend isnt against them. The trend is against modifying them.
I've been repeating it for years. Modern diesels are incredible machines and if you pull heavy often there is no substitute. If you dont pull heavy often, they are a waste of money and they will have problems. If you buy one and work it like it is designed to be worked you likely wont have many issues.

Will any dealership take one on trade now? I would think dealerships wouldn't want the EPA/DEQ liability of one on their used lot.

Dealerships will take damn near anything on trade

I dont see why they wouldnt. People still come in and ask for them so I'm sure theyll take em.
You wont see it become a news worthy issue until they start failing inspection and denying registration on them. Volkswagen got burned because states would not renew registration on non-compliant diesels. Either had to have it fixed or get rid of it

Environmental regs have gotten absurd. Even in Texas. You have to jump thru so many hoops and permits to start almost any kind of industry. If you want to start anything that involves oil and gas just forget about it. The permits just to do one simple process can run hundreds of thousands to millions.
I’ve looked into starting something. Permits and taxes for everything. And they don’t care if you do it. It’s not about protecting anything. They just want the money, then it’s ok

If you trade cars with a dealer you may be really dumb

Would you rather have Bejing's air quality?
or
India's Water Quality?
I know of no E.P.A. permits that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars (and I'm very familiar with what it costs to obtain an maintain permit coverage in multiple permitting universes.) Fines can get to that level, but not the cost of the permit itself. That's simply an untruth.

I can believe it. I've seen that show a few times and when they give those rat-rods full throttle they smoke like the old Kaiser smoke stack in St. Bernard Parish back in the day.
