beating Tampa on Sunday basically makes LAR/CHI Sunday night a win-win for the Saints

A Bears win - Saints are back in the 1 seed and control their own destiny to HFA

A Rams win - Saints are 1 win (or 1 Bears loss) away from AT LEAST the 2 seed... meaning the much coveted bye in the Wild Card round

Warford, Rammy, Armstead are all nursing or working through injuries. At this point if we can get them out for PIT and CAR im down.

if LAR is at 1 or 2 losses... we remain at 2 losses... and/or CHI stays at 4 losses...

we aren't sitting anyone

as of this moment... with HFA still available to us... the only way I see us sitting ANYONE is if LAR stays at 1 loss and they're up big on SF in the 2nd half of week 17

other than that... we're playing everyone to get HFA

I guess it would depend on the severity of the injury. But, I think in that scenario the team will know SF is playing for the #1 draft pick and mailing it in.

I have a feeling the team will go into preseason mode. They will practice and dress accordingly, but you will see key players being pulled early, and I would not be surprised if we dress all linemen on the team to rest our starters as much as possible.

Any combo of 3 saints wins / bears losses.

It took 12 hours for someone to provide this simple answer.

Our magic number to clinch the 2 seed between Saints wins and Bears losses is 3.

Our magic number to clinch the 3 seed, between Saints and Dallas, is 2.

Our magic number to clinch the division champ, and at least a 4 seed, between us and Carolina, is 1.

After seeing the atmosphere LA had in that Chiefs game.... I would not be confident if we had to go there in the playoffs

You think they will have another historic fire between now and then and will fill the stadium with first responders and emotion?

Saints have to win out and go 14-2 because even if the Rams are 14-1 going into week 17 there's a chance in the late afternoon game that the Rams could lose to the worst team in the league in the 49ers and we'd clinch the #1 seed in a 14-2 H2H tiebreaker over the Rams.

Hosting throughout the playoffs is the only way we can recreate the 2009 Super Bowl magic and repeat. See 2011 postseason for proof when Saints had their best team ever.

Hopefully the Rams will lose to the Bears and then drop one to the Eagles. Most of their wins this year have been within one score so it is definitely possible. If they did then we could rest in week 17 because we would have the #1 seed wrapped up. (the rams would likely rest their guys too in wk17 too)

I answered the OP with that exact answer within 25 minutes of his posting. You just overlooked it.

3rd "paragraph". It's before the edit.

If you can't read 4 sentences before zoning out that's your problem.

Just a heads up, by rule if games have playoff implications and directly affect teams, those games are supposed to be played in the same time frame.

So if the race for the one seed is still on, our game would likely be flexed to the 3:00 hour (I highly doubt they want to start a west coast game at 10:00 am Pacific).

So if we still have a shot, we'd play our starters.

It sounds worse than I meant it. But really the answer was the third and fourth sentence.

My kids can read five before getting distracted. Real talk.

Magic number is now 2 for the 2 seed. Any combination 2 wins for us/losses for the Bears clinches the 2 seed.

But now that we are back on top with 3 to go, we should be shooting higher.
