Multiple fights at one of South Carolina's most dangerous prisons left at least seven inmates dead and 17 others injured, a prison official said Monday.

Lee Correctional Institution was secured at around 2:55 a.m., nearly eight hours after multiple fights broke out in three housing units Sunday night, prison spokesman Jeff Taillon said. The incident started around 7:15 p.m., he said.

I'm sure they were all model prisoners just trying to better themselves.

Saving tax payers money, this should be encouraged in other prisons.

It is probably the same Louisiana, but in SC, correctional officers make about the same amount of money as a full time worker in retail.

Of the law enforcement community that I’ve seen, the prison guards were always..... leaving something to be desired. There were some bright ones in the group (men and women who were just doing the job to get easy federal credit to jump) it a lot of them left something to be desired.

A huge pay-per-view opportunity as missed.

Lee Correctional is probably the 2nd worst prison in SC. Lieber Correctional is the worst, but the staff is better because you're in Dorchester County and have a better employment pool. Lee Correctional's employees come primarily from Lee County and Clarendon County, two of the state's poorest and most uneducated counties. That doesn't help in emergency situations.

One of my best friends is a CO in Pollock. He told me several years ago a huge gang fight broke out with several trying to use the riot as a chance to break out. He was manning a large gun that shoots basically a bean bag. The prisoners knew the gun and avoided it because it hurts like hell. He said a large group got free of the first layer of guards and were heading for a gate. He took the gun downstairs and stood in front of them trying to stop/slow them down. He said they all stopped just long enough for backup to arrive. Crazy man. I would want no part of that job but appreciate the ones that do it and are good at it.
