Not really a fan of how they're making David out to be some passive and sensitive man

Koresh and the Davidians' side of the story is largely influenced by Thibodeau, who clearly appreciated Koresh. There's a BookTV interview with him from 98/99 where he goes into detail about daily life, Koresh, and what happened during the standoff. Of course they'll be sympathetic to his point of view.

Same thing with Noesner coming across as a hero- the showrunners used his book for that side of the story.

I don't think Koresh comes across as a hero, or even particularly sympathetic. But I do think the show tried to paint an even-handed depiction from its dual perspectives.

They are showing both sensitive and anger sides.
Looks like you never know what you would get from him.
One day he was probably the nicest guy in the world. Next day, he would probably scare the hell out of you.
On top of raping women and children.

Anyone who goes into this with open eyes can see they are showing the good and bad of both sides. Total clusterfrick in all ways, including the sweet safe Davidians.

Anyone not watching this and the Versace show are missing out on some great TV

At the time of my post, they hadn't shown him angry or anything just yet. They did a little bit later in the episode. What I was saying was that at that point in the story there were home videos released of him being angry and aggressive. There were rumors that he was on amphetamines during his teachings. I saw that on of the documentaries, but can't remember which one.

Episodes 1, 2, and 3 showing beginning at 11p.m. CST today. I missed the third one. It starts at 1:16 a.m. Set the DVD for it.

I’m watching this and if you like it, I’d also suggest the new A&E documentary on it as they take a deeper, more realistic dive.

As a kid, I thought Koresh and the cult was evil and the government blameless heroes. But at the very least, it introduces nuance into the story. At least you can understand the why and how of what really happened. Just a tragedy, poor children.

As a side note, what about Koresh wanting to be a rock star? He wasn’t that bad if you like shitty hair bands.

So do we know that it went down exactly like the series suggest with the agents shooting the dogs and Koresh out front with his hands up.. If so, that is messed up.

The Versace show - if accurate, that guy was crazy.
Talk about some pretty lazy police work.
They could have caught that guy earlier and probably prevented Versace's murder.

Same here. The media and American people deserve a lot of blame for what happened as well. I was a young teen at the time and I remember there was mounting public pressure for the government to do something, go in, frick em up some, or whatever to end the stand off. That was the wrong thing to do obviously, but along with the government, the media and the public pressure to do something deserves blame.

Just to be clear and for the record, the lionshare of the blame is on the government and atf. And unfortunately the Waco shite led directly to Oklahoma city. No Waco frick up, no OK city attack.

The atf guys beat up the cameraman and took his tape so we don’t know.

Shooting dogs is sop for law enforcement.

I'm watching, but find it's tailing off very, very fast. I liked the first couple of episodes, but they are getting worse as it goes along IMO.

Koresh was not coming out.

Koresh went jogging the day before the attack. The ATF declined to pick him up outside the compound. They claimed they were concerned about the destruction of evidence but the camera crew they had lined up to catch their "dynamic entry" tells the true tale.

It's hard to tell really. It's based off of a book by one of the Branch Davidians and another book by the FBI Negotiator. The documentaries I've seen made Koresh out to much more of an aggressive psychopath and this makes him out to be more of a passive victim. Who knows what really happened. I'm sure the FBI was controlling the narrative that got out to the news outlets.
